The Rend board approves a $3,000 contribution to the Ozark project as Mt Vernon gains a larger turbine powered plane with 48 seats. Flights connect St Louis, Mt Vernon, Mattoon Charleston, Bloomington, and Chicago with shorter times and new schedules.
Robert Lewis of RFD 3 Mt Vernon died at 11 00 am Wednesday at his home aged 45 He is survived by his widow Josephine Hunt Lewis two children Darrell and a son at home his mother Corine McCloud Union City Tenn and stepfather James McCloud Union City Tenn a sister Sarah Curry Union City Tenn 11 stepbrothers and stepsisters a niece and nephew Funeral 2 00 pm Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with Rev E W Jackson and Rev Fred Turner officiating Burial Oakwood Cemetery Body in state at church 7 00 9 00 pm Friday He was born June 27 1922 in New Madrid Missouri to William and Corine Martin Lewis He formerly worked for Wagter Electric Co in St Louis Missouri.

Vernon resident who died Tuesday evening in Knoxville will be held at Myers Chapel at 1 30 p m Friday with Rev Tessie Minor officiating Burial will be in Old Shiloh cemetery The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel from 10 00 a m until service time

Rend Lake Association directors, meeting at Benton, voted to support the U S Army Corps of Engineers plan to relocate the CIPS transmission line to the east side of Rend Lake. They argued only government property should host the line to avoid delaying the $50 million project vital to southern Illinois. The Rend Lake College board and Greater Egypt Regional Planning and Development Commission opposed the routing. The association will hold its annual dinner March 29 at Christopher elementary, with six Mt Vernon high school chorus members providing entertainment. Tickets are at the Jamison Real Estate office.
One arrest was made in three accidents here yesterday. Elmer F. Liefer, 48, Evansville, Ind., charged with failure to yield right of way in an accident on Salem Road. Holick A. Voyles, 42, Belle Rive, was the other driver. Two cars damaged over $100. Iris J. McBrian, 33, struck a train engine at Louisville and Nashville tracks. J H. Moore, 58, Evansville, Ind., engineer. McBrian's car damaged more. William A. Gilbert, 56, and Deanna L. Sherman, 23, drivers in an accident on 12th and Harrison, both cars damaged over $100.
Marjolie Bagby filed for divorce against Homer M. Bagby in circuit court yesterday charging cruelty. The couple wed June 20 1953 and separated March 16 1968. She seeks custody of four minor children and support.
A $95,000 federal allotment will finance ACP watershed work in six Jefferson county townships Grand Prairie Rome Casner Shiloh Blissville and McClellan to promote conservation practices. Local soil district will hire surveyors engineers and supervisors with $93,000 contributed locally. district conservationist Manford Logan calls it a great help.
Sam Shaw of New York Life will serve as master of ceremonies at the Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce annual dinner on Monday April 1 at First Community Church. The program includes a guest speaker John Red Pace, a chalk talk by Angela Pipes, songs by soprano Deloris Bender, piano and organ music, and a tribute to Ozark Airlines with airport board members in attendance. A $250 reward was posted today by Howard Laird for information leading to the recovery of ten head of cattle stolen from the Laird farm east of Waltonville during the March 2 3 weekend. The mix of Holstein Angus and Shorthorn cattle included five steers over 1000 pounds and five smaller heifers and steers about 700 pounds. Each animal bears a one inch left ear notch. Theft reported to the sheriff's office. stolen cattle valued at least $2,200 at market.
Augusta Milligan formerly secretary to U S Senator Paul Douglas and other congressmen was found dead at her home in Carbondale at age 69. Authorities indicate death from natural causes.
Michael E. Hayes and James Louis Davenport pleaded guilty in circuit court to a theft charge. The pair, ages 19 and 22, were accused of taking a pickup from Holman Motor Company and damaging the ignition. Each was fined 65 dollars and placed on two years probation.

Illinois AP report says Senator Everett M Dirksen with the majority opposed an amendment that would force senators to disclose annually all income sources and financial details. Senator Charles H Percy did not vote but was listed as against the amendment, which failed 44 to 40.
