Bluford PTA elects Noble Irvin president and delegates

Mrs Noble Irvin was elected president of the Bluford PTA at its March meeting and named Bluford's delegate to the state convention. Other officers were Mrs Virgil Scott, vice president, Mrs Arthur Levin, secretary, and Mrs Ed Williams, treasurer. Speaker Mrs E J Curry urged parents and teachers to nurture children's thinking and learning.

Horace Mann PTA Elects New Officers and Chorus Event

Mrs Kenneth Cross is named President of the Horace Mann Parent Teachers Association with Mrs Owen Irvin as first vice president and Mrs Donald DeMent as second vice president. A fifth and sixth grade chorus directed by Mrs Beulah Bledsoe presented an operetta on Stephen Foster with roles filled by student performers. A celebration and social hour followed as new teacher Mrs Jack Cave was introduced.

A minor collision occurred at 4 30 am on the public square in Mt. Vernon. Vehicles driven by Barbara Howden of Country Heights and Leroy Reynolds of 110644 South Tenth collided at Ninth and roadway.

Pleasant Hill church wedding ends amid palms and lilies

Miss Sharon Hughey and William Stanley Partridge wed at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in a seven o’clock ceremony. The bridal party included Mrs. Ivan McConnaughhay as matron of honor and relatives from Benton Road and Mt. Vernon township. The couple plans a honeymoon after the service. Partridge, a Navy radarman, will return to Norfolk, Virginia, March 28 after completing 31 months of service in Korea and Europe.

Oil Women and Guests to Hear Charles Pardee

Charles J. Pardee secretary of the Illinois Oil and Gas Association will speak at the first dinner meeting of the Desk and Derrick Club of Little Egypt Monday evening. Highlights include musical selections by Bud Ferguson a humorous reading by Mrs Taylor Ayers and a short comedy skit by members. Dinner at 7 at the Moose Lodge followed by introductions and entertainment. About 140 attendees from 20 oil companies drilling contractors refineries and services. Mt Vernon hosts Illinois third affiliate of the Desk and Derrick Clubs of North America as of February with Carmi women forming a club.

Rural Schools Lunch Menus Jefferson County

Luncheon menus for rural schools in Jefferson county next week list meals planned by The Register-News to aid homemakers. Monday offers ground meat and cheese sandwich with buttered peas harvard beets and sliced peaches. Tuesday features hard boiled egg navy beans tossed salad and fruit salad. Wednesday serves chicken pie buttered green beans cole slaw and grapefruit. Thursday includes barbecue on bun kidney bean salad creamed corn and fresh peas. Friday presents sliced cheese and crackers potato salad and carrot radish celery sticks with tapioca pudding.

Arrest Youths For Petty Theft At Local Store

Police arrested three youths after theft of pies and doughnuts from the A. and P. Store at 8th and Broadway. They admitted taking two boxes of pies and doughnuts and discarded most after eating. No charges filed yet. youths in custody.

Charles H Easley of Centralia died at 11 30 p m Friday at St Marys Hospital in Centralia. Funeral services are set for Sunday at 2 30 p m at Mt Moriah church with Rev Roy Beal officiating. Rites Held for Former Bonnie Resident in Shreveport

Funeral services were conducted in Shreveport for M/Sgt. Cameron B. Johnston 47 a former Bonnie resident. Burial followed at Forest Park Cemetery. Johnston died Monday at James Connally Air Force Base Hospital in Waco Texas after a 27 year military career with the Marines and Air Force. He served in World War II England and Belgium and in Central America during the Nicaraguan conflict. Surviving are his widow Catherine Beatrice Martin two daughters Johnette Joyce two sisters and two brothers.
