The Jefferson County Health Improvers Association holds its second annual meeting Monday March 22 at 7 30 p m in West Salem Church basement. New officers and directors will be elected. Howard Dagley from district six of the Illinois Health Improvement Association Board will speak. Members and others interested in Blue Cross and Blue Shield urged to attend. Enrollment for Blue Cross and Blue Shield benefits runs June 21 to July 2. Entertainment and refreshments will follow.

A birthday supper honored Toby Norris and Charles Sword at the Norris home with a large guest list including Hayes, Sword family, Glenn and Roy Howard, Knox Mairons, Lewis Norris, Myrtie Norris, Elsie and Eleanor Hodge. Fred Hoofer of Nasan returned from Korea and is sister-in-law to Mrs. Geraldine Bushong. Rogers attended a Hereford cattle sale at the DuQuoin State Fair grounds, and Leslie Rogers hosted visitors in Pinckneyville Thursday.

A moderate earthquake centered in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs woke sleepers from Ventura to Mexico with little damage. It cracked windows and plaster in Indio and Coachella, broke a Palm Springs hotel water pipe, and swayed buildings in Los Angeles. The quake, magnitude near 6, was the strongest in the region outside Kern County in years. Residents flooded police lines with calls from El Centro, San Bernardino, Riverside, and other cities.

Bigamist Kills His Third Wife in Chicago Neighborhood
Chicago police say John Krawczwicz 41 admitted marrying Bertha in 1952 without divorce from his second wife. A coroner's jury recommended grand jury action after he fatally shot Bertha at a daughter’s home Tuesday night. Krawczwicz had served eight years for killing his first wife Betty and also married Dorothy Veronice McFaul in 1946. Roy Brewer, son in law of the third wife, described the shooting and disarming of the suspect.
