County Assessments Reach 50 Percent Target In Law
Illinois counties rarely meet the 50 percent assessment level required by law with Johnson County at 3.96 percent and Winnebago at 44.53 percent. Multiplier adjustments attempt to normalize values, but judicial and administrative action shows potential tax increases if enforced. Hamer notes tax bills depend on both assessment level and levy rates, and lawmakers could curb levies to prevent higher taxes.
