William Jackson Gardner 66 of Casner township died at his home yesterday. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. at Union church three miles east of Ashley with burial in Brick cemetery. Survived by two daughters Mary Lou Crawford and Betty Slayton, one son Jim Gardner, and sister Mrs Herman Foote. He was a printer in Ashley and taught a Sunday School class. Coroner ruled natural causes. Friends may call Hogan Funeral Home Ashley until noon Monday, then at church.
Charles B Risley of Dahlgren died at 1125 p m Friday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was eighty years old. Funeral services will be Sunday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev Rudolph Schlag officiating. Burial in Sugar Camp cemetery. Survived by two sons Herbert and Arvie. three daughters Goldin Finn Roxie Fanning and Dorothy Almasy. six grandchildren one great grandchild and two sisters Delia Huffstutter and Effie Watson. Body lies in state at Gholson Funeral Home after 2 p m today.
Fred Moore, 62, of Belle Rive, is held in the county jail on a vagrancy charge. Arrested by city police earlier this week, the case was filed in county court with a hearing set for next Tuesday before Judge Dale Andrews.
Associated Press reports New York judge Carson DeWiatt Baker paid an 850 fine and surrendered his driver’s license after a speeding conviction. The Manhattan traffic court verdict raised his total fines to 185 for 18 long neglected tickets. Baker, a Negro, has taken leave of absence from his $15,000 a year Municipal Court post while the appellate division reviews his fitness to remain on the bench.

Randall and Deputy Randall return from Springfield meetings as Jefferson county assessors prepare to begin on April 1. Richard J.
