40 Acres Burned Over Yesterday Near Mt. Vernon
Field and woods fires burned about 40 acres in rural areas near Mt. Vernon yesterday. Rural firemen were called to James Curtis’s home to control a field fire burning about ten acres at 11:45 a.m. At 1:55 p.m. they responded to Lester Boone on the Salem Road for a fire in fields and woods covering about 30 acres. At 3:24 p.m. firefighters were sent to a vacant lot on South Rue Street to control a grass fire.
