February Crime Totals At Mt Vernon Police Record

Missouri Senate Rejects ERA in 22 to 12 Vote

In Jefferson City supporters wearing 1900s costumes watched as the Missouri state Senate rejected the Equal Rights Amendment by a 22-12 margin. The defeat matched two years ago’s tally, as opponents urged that ERA’s day had passed. Nevada North Carolina and Virginia also defeated ERA this year while Indiana approved it, becoming the 35th state to ratify. By March 29 1979 thirty eight states needed ratification for the amendment to become part of the Constitution.

SPRINGFIELD Ill AP House leaders say a 20 percent boost in the appropriation to run the Illinois House is needed sponsoring legislation to add 350000 for House operations and part time staff through June 30. Rising costs from communications copying printing and extra session days last year drive the request. The current fiscal year funding matches 1976 at 1.765 million. with the add on, fiscal 1977 would total 2.115 million.

Firefighters Busy Here Last Month in Mt Vernon

Firemen responded to 100 alarms across Mt Vernon last month, with total estimated damage of 11 175. Central station logged 60 alarms and 5075 loss, Burnette station 36 alarms 6100 loss, airport station four alarms with no loss. Alarms by type included 43 emergency 17 residence 17 and 5 business mercantile. Renovation on a tanker truck finished in February at the airport station.
