Prices paid until 12:30 p.m. today rose by 100. The top was 16.75 for 200 to 220 lb hogs. Sows under 300 lb were 14.75, sows 300 lb and over 14.30, down. Boars priced at 9.50 and 10.00. After 12:30 p.m. prices will reflect next day's levels.

AP dispatch from National Stockyards lists tomorrow's livestock estimates including hogs at 9.00 per cwt, cattle at 3 500, calves 350, sheep 300, barrows and gilts 150-310 pounds at 14.75-17.75, sows 280-60 per cwt. cattle 5 000, calves 300, steers good and choice 20.50-23.50, heifers 19.00-22.90, cows 13.00-14.50. sheep 400, wooled lambs 24.50-75, ewes none.

Chicago live poultry and egg prices steady or up

Chicago wholesale prices show live poultry unchanged to up to 28 cents for roasters at 25 to 28 cents and special fryers around 20 to 24 cents. Butter held steady with various grade quotes. eggs firm with whites and mixed at about 32 cents, mediums 28 cents, standards 28 to 14 cents, and dirties unquoted.

Federal vote law aims to expand turnout and curb barriers

A new bill to mandate a federal voter registration step was outlined. It would require applicants to supply name address age and length of residence. If local registrars fail to register, federal registrars would be appointed by the Civil Service Commission. Federal registrars would operate in districts with 50 percent non registration or non voting. Ballots would be impounded where people are not allowed to vote until they are given a chance.

Mrs Judy Farrell 21 of Griggsville Ill died in St Louis Hospital from burns suffered March 6 while painting the interior of her home. Police said she was cleaning a paint brush with gasoline when the fumes ignited. She was a widow.

Autos Collide on Salem Road in Mt Vernon

A weekend accident on Salem Road and Oakland Avenue involved James W. Sefried 44 of 409 South 24th and Jimmy R. Lipe 16 of 713 South 21st. Sefried's car suffered about 50 dollars in damage while Lipe's exceeded 100 dollars. Lipe was charged with following too close.

Two Fined For Theft Attempt

Joseph D. Wicks and Carl G. Arnaud both 22 pleaded guilty in circuit court to attempted theft. Judge Alvin Lacy Williams fined each $25 plus costs after State's Attorney Rex Taylor's recommendation. The pair allegedly tried to steal gasoline from a truck Feb 23 on Warren Avenue near Mayo's Garage. two shots were fired by owner Bill Mayo, with bullets hitting the suspects’ car.
