Ex governor Marland finds cab driving after politics

W Virginia native and former governor from 1953 to 1956, Marland, failed to win re election and a later Senate bid. He moved to Chicago in 1959 to work for West Kentucky Coal Co and after losing his job in 1961 joined Alcoholics Anonymous. Since then he has mostly driven a taxi to rebuild his character as he visits his wife Valerie and their four children in Barrington.

Isaacs Arraignment Delayed To March 29

Theodore Isaacs former state revenue director faces conspiracy and official misconduct charges. His arraignment was postponed from Monday to March 29 as Chief Justice Ray Klingbiel seeks an outside Seventh Judicial Circuit judge to avoid tying a Seventh Circuit judge to a lengthy trial. Tot Pulled Under Car Two Blocks

A 15 month old boy named Lonnie Qualls was carried beneath his parents car for almost two blocks in Madisonville Kentucky after slipping unnoticed from a stopped vehicle at a service station. The infant clung to the front axle until a passing motorist yelled and a man freed him with no serious injuries reported.

Three crashes in Mt. Vernon and Jefferson County injure one person and cause vehicle damage over a hundred dollars. Thefts Reported Of Antiques And Auto Wheel Thefts

Mount Vernon police and Jefferson county officers reported thefts of antique furniture an auto wheel and tire on Friday. Burglary probe centers on an unoccupied rural house near the Jefferson Washington county line. Eugene Kynski owner of the house says thieves took walnut dresser piano stool and Alladin lamp. Leprechaun Helpers Paint Green Line on Fifth Avenue

John Heaney and George C. Gallagher, laborers from Staten Island, started painting a two block green line along central Fifth Avenue in New York before police halted the act. They said the impulse stemmed from St Patrick’s Day pride as the parade looms in under five days. The city previously banned colored lines for different nationalities in last year’s parade.

City Dismisses Suit as Building Already Down

The City of Mt. Vernon sought authority to demolish a dilapidated building at 34th and Broadway but the circuit court dismissed the petition yesterday for good cause. The building had already been torn down by the owner, Allen Rose Concrete and Cement Co., after the city filed the petition.
