Arrest Made In Larceny Case Near Irvington

County authorities say a petty larceny charge will be filed today against Robert Sloat, 22, of Centralia, in connection with the theft of a tractor batteries and scrap iron from Roy Armstrong's home near Irvington in Jefferson County. Two other men are being sought.

Notice of Annexation Petition Seeks Mt. Vernon Addition

A petition for annexation to the City of Mt. Vernon Illinois was filed with the Jefferson County Clerk on March 10 1955. The described territory includes parts of Section 30 and 19 and multiple additions and subdivisions in Mt. Vernon Township. Young Man Held For Car Larceny

Robert Mick, 22, of 921 Warren was arrested in McLeansboro for stealing a 1953 model car from Bayer Motor Co. late last night. State Patrolman Carl Pindell made the arrest. deputies and police returned Mick to Mt. Vernon. The car was stolen after 7 p.m. and Mick was caught before 9 p.m. A larceny charge will be filed. he is held in the county jail.

Bank Bandit Nabbed Seven Hours After Afton Robbery

Eugene William Buff, 33, released from the Nebraska Penitentiary, was seized in Missouri seven hours after robbing Commercial State Bank of Afton, Iowa. He admitted holding up the bank, forcing cashier R. M. Crandall and four employees into the vault, with a sawed off shotgun and gunny sack. The $25,000 theft occurred Friday afternoon before bank doors closed.

Beverly Hills California actor Brian Donlevy 52 is free on 250 bail awaiting a Beverly Hills municipal court appearance Wednesday on drunken driving charges. Officers heard a crash and found his new convertible had mounted a curb driven onto a dead end street parking lot and collided with a parked sedan. Two tires were blown.

At 7:45 last night a car driven by Donald M. Leffler, 17, of 903 South 21st Street collided with a truck driven by Billy Strong, 27, of 810 North Sixth Street, about half a mile southwest of Mt. Vernon. Leffler's car suffered notable damage to the right front side.

Father to be charged after cowhide whip beating

In Tampa Florida George Rogers father of 12 year old Edith Rogers will be charged with assault and battery after authorities say he savagely beaten his daughter with a five foot cowhide whip. more than 50 whip marks were found and the girl required hospital treatment for bloody welts on her back witnesses saw the beating through a living room window and said the father claimed he punished her for taking a bracelet at school.
