Former Resident Killed in Accident
Vernon Hollis aged 33 was instantly killed in a motorcycle crash in Alton Illinois on Tuesday. Born and raised in Mt Vernon he attended Field school. Funeral services are set for Sunday at Knights Prairie church seven miles southwest of McLeansboro. He was a nephew of Bruce and Walter Smith of Mt Vernon. Surviving are his wife two sons and his mother Mrs Edith Trinkle of Flora. His father and a brother preceded him in death.

Kiwanis Club Holds Meeting Highlights and Announcements
Kiwanis club held its regular meeting last night with President Merle Henderson reading the minutes from the prior board session. Lawrence Collins announced an upcoming election on the school building program and Amos Smith named Kiwanian of the week. Three birthdays were announced Reid Starkey Cliff Fore and Glen Hutchison. Dr J R Ansley led the program presenting a film Infantile Paralysis Finds a Cure produced by Dr E R Dunn of Oklahoma City with the National Chiropractic Association. He noted chiropractic practice is about 54 years old with 20 000 chiropractors serving 30 million patients yearly. Guests were L A Dykema and Dr Wm Dillard.
