Harry Choisser 78 of Ewing died Tuesday night at Franklin Hospital Benton. Retired coal miner formerly with Orient 2 mine, born December 20 1897 in Illinois. Survived by two sons Robert and Harry M Choisser, two daughters Betty Storey and Mary Lou Jones, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two sisters Lenore Owens and Mary Jane Mead. Funeral Friday 2 p.m. Johnston Funeral Home Whittington officiated by Rev James Smoot. Burial in Masonic and Oddfellows cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday.

Youth Gets Jail Term Probation On Cannabis Charge
An 18 year old Mt. Vernon youth was placed on one year's probation including 39 days in county jail after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of cannabis. William D. Hays of Johnson Alley south of Jordan Avenue received credit for 39 days already served. Judge Clarence E. Partee delivered the sentence after the negotiated plea on January 31.

Crossing Guard Starts Work Today At Casey Jr. High

Cuban-born Marcelino Miyares joins state school board
CHICAGO AP Marcelino Miyares was named by Gov. Daniel Walker to the State Board of Education and became a naturalized citizen the same day. Miyares, 38, of Evanston, heads O.M.A.R. Company serving Chicago’s Spanish speaking community and previously chaired the political science department at Illinois Benedictine College Lisle.
