Geese Fly North and South Over Mt Vernon Today

Four flocks of about 100 geese passed over Mt Vernon in V formation, seen morning and midday as a weather forecast drizzle loomed. Mrs. Richard Birkner reported the early northbound flocks near 7:00 am from Welkins Street. Another resident observed the geese heading south at about 11:15 am.

James Edward Brown a former Jefferson county resident died at his home in Decatur Saturday. He was the brother of Orville Brown of Mt. Vernon and son of the late Henry and Alice Brown. Funeral services were set for 3 00 p m today in Decatur with burial there.

A Liberator bomber from Langley Air Force Base crashed into Blue Ridge Mountain near Staunton Virginia killing two reservists Captain Donald H Belleville and Staff Sergeant James F Butler. Carl Kovacovich Dies at 51 in Illinois Veterans Hospital

Carl Kovacovich of RFD 1 Mr. Vernon died at 7 00 am at the Veterans Hospital in Marion Illinois. He was 51 years old and had been ill since January 13. Funeral Thursday at 3 30 pm at Myers officiating with burial in South Hickory Hill cemetery. He worked at Revere Copper and Brass Co Chicago and was a member of the Disabled War Veterans in Chicago. He was born February 19 1900 in Vienna Austria son of Steve and Anna Kovacovich. He married Mona Ellis and is survived by his wife mother three sisters and two children.

Man with Chicken Bone in Throat Rushed to Paducah Hospital

John W. Bailie about 50, of Paducah, an Illinois Central Railroad employee, was transported by ambulance from Mount Vernon to Illinois Central Hospital in Paducah yesterday after a chicken bone lodged in his throat. He was able to talk during the trip and had no breathing trouble.
