EAST PATERSON N J The R S Auto Store assistant manager identified only as E Hirsch left with a $500 money bag and letters. He intended to deposit the cash in a night depository at a Savings and Loan and mail the letters separately. The bag was put in a mailbox by mistake and police were alerted as the error was discovered and the cash retrieved with help from the post office.
Associated Press reports actor Humphrey Bogart rests at Good Samaritan Hospital after major chest surgery to remove a swelling in the esophagus. Doctor Maynard Brandsman says the inflammation caused the swelling and it is not cancerous.

Mr and Mrs Clyde Keen of Keenes welcomed a daughter at 4 35 p m in Jefferson Memorial weighing eight pounds two and a half ounces. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Marion Wells of Scheller at 6 52 p m in Good Samaritan weighing nine pounds twelve ounces.
