Nine Miners Trapped After Flooded Mine Disaster
Nine Kocher Coal Co. miners are trapped in the Nooded Porter Tunnel in Schuylkill County after a 3 foot wall of water flooded the passage. One miner Gary Klinger, 19, of Hegins died. three others injured. About 100 workers were underground when the accident happened near mid day Tuesday. rescuers say survival chances are slim as they search a mile long tunnel under a 400 foot mountain. Families wait at the entrance as teams of rescuers press on with little progress.
