Mrs. Alice Bruce of Dix reports the funeral for Walter Bruce, former Jefferson county resident, was held last Saturday in Colorado Springs. Survived by wife Mae Hilton, four sons, two daughters, and several grandchildren. preceded in death by parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Funeral services for Terrill Thomson will be conducted at eight o'clock Thursday evening at Myers Chapel. Herbert J. Wilson, minister of the Central Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Golden City, Mo. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Thomson, 55, well known Mrs. Vernon shoemaker, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital from an apparent heart attack.
Court house to close at noon tomorrow out of respect for Dr Ray Hefley long serving Jefferson county coroner who died suddenly of a heart attack. Funeral services set for 1 30 p m Wednesday at Myers Chapel with burial in Oakwood cemetery.
William Riley Taylor, 71, of 600 South 25th Street, a retired general yardmaster for the Illinois Central Railroad at Centralia and Bluford, died at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral at Myers Chapel with Rev E L Carter and Rev Mrs Helen Carter officiating. burial in Mt Catherine cemetery. He was born September 25, 1893, married Margaret Scoggins, and leaves two sons, Warren and Clarence, four brothers, three sisters, four grandchildren and a great grandchild. He belonged to Church of the Nazarene at Bluford and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.
Wayne City veteran Pink A. Lane aged 92 died at 9 00 a m Monday in Danville Illinois Veterans Hospital. Funeral at Richardson Chapel Wayne City at 2 00 p m Wednesday with Rev Loyal Gallaher and Rev Don Shockley officiating. Burial in Egbert cemetery. Call after 400 p m today. Survived by two sons Leslie Owaneco Illinois and Wilbert Wayne City. six daughters Louise Nauss Hammond Indiana Helen Johnson Los Angeles Ruth Wood Keenes Gladys Wilson Rena McKinney Vera Scott all Wayne City. 12 grandchildren two great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was member of Modern Woodmen Lodge.
Funeral services for Charles Marcum will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel with the Rev. Carter Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Catherine cemetery. Mr. Marcum, 74, of Farrington township, died at 2:10 a.m. Monday in Veterans Hospital at Marion.
Funeral services for the Rev. G. A. McCammon were conducted February 22 in Springfield. He died February 19 at age 96. A former resident, he once pastored the First Methodist Church here. He is survived by his wife five children and several grandchildren.
A car owned by Josephus Tucker was heavily damaged by a fire in the 1100 block of South Ninth near a cafe. Police say a man claimed he flipped a match accidentally igniting the vehicle. he fled and offered to compensate Tucker. No charges were filed.
Betty Edwards a 16 year old resident pleaded innocent in circuit court to disorderly conduct and obstructing a police officer. She sought a jury trial. Judge Alvin Lacy Williams did not set a trial date. The charges followed a January protest by about 25 Negroes at the courthouse. She was released without bond into parental custody after being taken into custody at the high school gym. The incident occurred as police cleared a group from a stairway in the gym lobby.
A collision at 17th and Perkins yesterday involved a car driven by Sharon K. Anderson Route 1 Inc with damage over 150 dollars. Dexter Kelley of 1313 Jones sustained minor damage to his vehicle. No injuries were reported.
In Joliet at Good Samaritan Hospital a son named Bobby Gene was born to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gene Creed at 1 03 this morning weighing eight pounds five ounces. A son named Michael Eugene arrived for Mr. and Mrs. James Willis Keele of Dix at 1 03 yesterday afternoon weighing nine pounds ten ounces. A daughter named Donna Sue was born to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Clark of Peoria Monday in a hospital there. Other newborns include a son for Mr. and Mrs. Jack Owens at 6 25 last night and a son for Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wilkerson born February 18 weighing eight pounds seven and three fourths ounces. Grandparents and great grandparents from Dahlgren Belle Rive Mt Vernon and other towns are noted in the births.
Prices paid until 12 30 p m today rose 25 cents with hogs 200 to 220 pounds at 16 75 top. Sows advanced to 15 00 for 300 weight but lighter sows fell to 14 75 300 weight and over. Boars traded 9 50 and 10 00. After 12 30 p m prices revert to next day basis.

St Louis reports egg prices by consumer grades with large medium and small sizes and wholesale grades. Hens and broilers prices are listed by weight class, including heavy hens 17-18 cents, light over 5 pounds 10-11, under 5 pounds 44, and broilers 18-19 or 14 cents.

Wholesale live poultry prices unchanged with roasters at 23 to 26. Special fed white rock fryers listed at 1942 to 21. Butter on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange steady with grade AA 93 score at 57 percent and other grades around 56 to 57. Eggs barely steady with wholesale prices unchanged. grade A whites at about 25 to 44, mixes 25 to 44, mediums 24 to 42, standards 24, dirties unquoted.
In late trading on a moderate day, nonferrous metals airlines rubbers and rails lifted stocks while Du Pont fell nearly 3. New in the tape were sharp moves in Thikol New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad as rail merger sentiment grows. Dow Jones noon averages show mixed gains with 30 industries up 0.52 rails 0.15 and utilities down 0.22.
Soviet Premier Alexei N Kosygin viewed the Berlin Wall in East Berlin during a brief sightseeing tour after an East German border guard was captured while attempting a break for freedom. He had arrived from the Leipzig trade fair the previous night and was touring the Soviet capital with officials.

Rain changing to freezing rain and snow made roads slick in central and northern Illinois. Temperatures fell from the 30s in the north to near 40s in the south. An unarmed Minuteman missile was fired successfully today under operational conditions from an underground silo near Newell South Dakota. The Strategic Air Command said the launch went as scheduled. The missile rose about a mile, then landed in a sealed area about a mile away.

A false report claimed Dr John Lakes would quit Mt Vernon. Dr Lakes, a skin specialist, has been with Medical Associates at Doctors Park and will continue his Mt Vernon work. An impostor phoned the paper with the quitting tale. Dr Lakes will resume practice in about six weeks.
AP report from CATRO, WW. Cairo circuit court grand jury indicted two residents. R. J. Andrews, 35, faces murder charges for the February 11 shooting of Mrs. Hobart Lambert in her home. Teressia Heady, 17, is accused of killing her husband during an argument in a tavern last year.
Mt Vernon increases its overall tax rate by 22 cents with adjustments across several sections. Library adds 0.5 cent to 12.0 cents, garbage remains 5.0, Fire Pension up 0.5 to 4.6, Municipal Retirement up 0.2 to 43.0, Bonds up 0.4 to 10.6, Police Pension up 3.2 to 7.9, Civil Defense up 0.2 to 3.1 cents compared with last year.
