Mr and Mrs Kenneth Presley announce a son born March 1 at St Louis Maternity Hospital named Mark Steven. Mr and Mrs Jean L Williamson of Dyer Indiana report a son Allen Dale born February 25 at St Elizabeths Hospital Lafayette Indiana. William a former Blu ford resident and Betty Gobel of Monon Indiana are the parents.

Bomber Missing Over Luzon in Carabello Range

An American Air Force B-29 with nine aboard disappeared on a routine flight north of Luzon. Last heard 90 miles from Clark Field. Brig. Gen. Jared V. Crabb said the bomber’s home base was in the United States and names aboard were withheld.

A two year old Navy school at Treasure Island San Francisco trains graduates to guide people during atom bomb emergencies. Captain Roy D Williams says the course covers crowd psychology and anti panic methods and cites seven to eight miles as a safe distance from a blast.

Dead and injured in Harrs Hotel fire

A fire on the Harrs Hotel top floors in Rock Island Illinois killed Russell Darwell 46 of Davenport Iowa and injured four others including Orville Wells 41 of Lacon Edwin Scherer Wes Moines Iowa and Frances Gilmore 30 of Indianapolis Indiana The blaze forced about 100 guests to flee in night attire and was controlled after about 45 minutes The cause was not determined.

Martha Behymer 82 of Wayne City died at home last night. Funeral at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Wayne City with Rev. Niles Stone officiating. burial in Thompson Cemetery. Born Feb 8 1867, she was daughter of William and Susan Trotter. Survived by son Otto Draper and daughter Oma Harvey plus 16 grandchildren. she was member of Wayne City Christian Church.

Funeral services for Mrs. EJla Darnell Marshall of Dix are set for Friday at 2 p m at Panther Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Ross Partridge officiating. Burial will follow in Panther Fork Cemetery. body remains at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix until the hour. Marshall died Monday night at age 82 at her Dix home.

Drill Bits Stolen In 200 Theft At Local Firm

Thieves broke into the Pipes Bit and Supply Co at 8081 S 17th Street sometime last night and stole oil drill bits valued at 200 dollars. Five rebuilt bits and 19 un repaired bits were taken. Entry was gained by prying a rear window with a bar. The theft was found at 7 45 am today when business opened.

Two Theft Reports From Parked Vehicles

Police headquarters reported two thefts Tuesday. Michael Adeario of Alton II said a break in occurred on the Hotel Emmerson lot, stealing a black brief vase and a tan suitcase with shirts towels and ties. Glen Wheeler of 1419 Westcott said his maroon and cream bicycle was stolen.

Two Widows Killed by Mail Order Romeo

Fernandez and Mrs Beck murdered Mrs Downing and her child in a scheme found through lonely hearts clubs. The widow's fatal plan involved drugging and drowning the child, with the mother shot and buried in a basement. The pair planned to move to California after selling the Downing property, using a vanity toupee as a trigger for the investigation.

European Storms Claim 28 Lives Across Europe

March 2 London reports the March wind swept through Europe killing at least 28 people and causing millions in property damage. Gusts up to 90 miles per hour toppled buildings sank ships and flooded coasts. Twenty five fatalities occurred from the collapse of war damaged structures in Western Germany. Aircraft were grounded and the Berlin airlift halted for several hours.
