A long Mt Vernon report lists residents and guests from Mt Vernon and nearby towns. It notes former Mt Vernon state champions King and Riley now in Peoria and heading to Bradley University, plus dozens of visiting relatives and travelers from Wood River Chicago Detroit Wayne City New York Louisville and other places with multiple trips and vacations.
The First Methodist choir will rehearse tonight at 7:30 o clock. All members are requested to note the change of time. Mrs Beulah Kent hosts Mt Vernon Day Unit meeting July 10 at 602 South 24th Street with lessons on Symptoms of Disease and Use of Deodorants. Visitors welcome. Entertains At Park Mrs Earl Woodworth celebrated Helen Strasser and Marry Ellen Creek birthdays at Mt Vernon City Park. Kiwanis Ladies Night features solos by Sadie Wilson Sue Coats piano by Verne Newcomb and Hadacol gift to master of ceremonies Bill Bailey. Guests from West Frankfort and locals attend. dancing follows the program.
The Friendship Circle Club gathered at Mt Vernon City Park on Wednesday June 28 for a noon potluck lunch and a business session. Prizes were awarded after games as all attendees participated.
The Mt. Vernon Garden Glories will meet Tuesday July 11 at 1 30 in place of the regular July 4 date. Mrs David Ames of Richview Road hosts a dessert luncheon. New officers will be introduced by Mrs John Stockman. Mrs Donald Wood will present the scrapbook and Mrs Ed Curtis will review the year’s achievements. Afterward the group tours the Ames home grounds to view various trees. All members urged to attend. Baptist Church Social members of Park Avenue Baptist church and friends held an ice cream social at City Park for Mr and Mrs Earl Rutherford and family who plan to move to Phoenix Arizona to visit their son Jack and daughter Betty and likely make their future home. About 90 attended. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs James Warren of Duluth Minnesota and Miss Edna Sherman of Old Mexico.
Mr and Mrs Leo Schultz of RFD 7 Mt Vernon welcomed a son named David Lee born yesterday. Mr and Mrs William Allen Newman of Wayne City welcomed a daughter Patricia Irene born Thursday afternoon at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr and Mrs Robert Lee Coats of Dix welcomed a daughter Ginger Lee born this morning at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Mr and Mrs Vernice Byford host weekend visit in Alabama while relatives travel. Stephan Ellis and John Martin visit Mt Vernon and Carlisle. Mrs H H Edmonds hosts in Mt Vernon with family. Charles Cole of Tulsa weds Mary Jane Patterson of Claremore in Claremore Oklahoma on Sunday June 25.
Dora Pittman visits daughter Pauline Phillips and son Arthur at Jefferson Barracks Hospital in St Louis where Arthur Pittman lies seriously injured after a car accident last Saturday night. He is listed at Veterans Hospital Room 311 Ward 3.

Air raids on Pyongyang were announced from Taejon with further details about strikes on the northern capital. United States bombers reportedly hit Pyongyang while ground fighting along the Han River saw a thin southern line opposite northern tanks.

Women attendees included Mrs. Lawrence Dykema and Mrs. Walter Chase showcasing multiple designer outfits and coordinated hats, with musical accompaniment by Mrs. Harold Hussong.

S M Story 82 familiarly known as Mart died at his Ina home at 4 PM yesterday. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Randle Story and married Ada E Dorris nearly 51 years ago. Surviving children include Randle, Royal, S M Jr, Louise Jones, Mary Glazebrooks, Beulah Bumpus, and Dorris Spotts. Lizzie Jewel Soloman, born June 28 1866 in White county Illinois, died at 4 30 p m Thursday at her daughter’s home in Enfield, day after her 84th birthday. Survived by six daughters and many grandchildren. funeral in Carmi with burial at Little Zion cemetery.
Funeral services for Harden L. Pettypool who died Wednesday night at his home east of Bonnie will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at New Hope church five miles east of Ina with Rev. W. R. Spurlock officiating. Burial will be in Kirk cemetery north of Ina. The body may be viewed at the family home until the funeral hour. Pettypool, 68, born July 9, 1881, was a farmer and stockman. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Charles Whisenhunt of Bonnie.
