Hijacker surrenders after Gulf Air jet lands in Doha

A man with two hand grenades hijacked a Gulf Air jet from London with 68 aboard then surrendered after the plane landed in Doha Qatar. He demanded 500000 dirhams or about 194000 dollars in exchange for passengers and crew. All aboard reported safe as armed police sealed the scene. The flight originated London to Muscat and Bahrain based Gulf Air hub.

Three More Guilty Pleas In Bid Rigging At O'Hare

Three road‑building firms Arcole Midwest Allied Asphalt Paving and Robert R. Anderson admitted guilt in federal court over bid rigging on a 3.5 million O Hare runway project. Mt Vernon Parks Offers July Golf and Archery Lessons

The Mt Vernon Parks and Recreation Department will run second sessions of golf and archery from July 5 to July 29. Defeat School Tax Hike In Casey District Vote

Casey voters rejected a 40 cent per 100 dollar tax hike for the Casey District Education Fund by 1 026 to 286. Officials said the increase was needed to offset forecast revenue declines. The district carries a 100 000 debt from reduced state aid in 1975 and 1976. The board cut 10 teaching posts four non certified workers and 25000 in supplies to balance the 1977 budget and will meet next month to discuss more cuts.

Jail Escapee Captured in Evanston Ill

Victor Zielinski, a Cook County Jail inmate serving 20 to 40 years for armed robbery and aggravated assault, escaped while being escorted to an Evanston courthouse hearing on a burglary charge and was recaptured about 20 minutes later hiding in bushes before being returned to jail.

Geneva AP Kane County Grand Jury indicted 24 year old Steve Salisbury of Aurora on forcible detention armed violence and unlawful restraint for holding six people hostage in an Aurora bar. Arraignment set for July 7 in Circuit Court.
