A son was born today at 3:50 am to Mrs. Carmie Montague of Route 7 and the late Harry A. Montague at Good Samaritan Hospital. He weighed eight pounds one half ounce and is named Harry Dean. Mr Montague died May 20.

Bloodmobile Returns to Mt Vernon July 28

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the Mt. Vernon local chapter office on Friday, July 28. Sixty nine pints were donated during the Armory visit on Monday with thirty two pints credited to Co M guardsmen. Eighty six potential donors were reported and seventeen sections noted.

Afternoon wedding in Belle Rive unites Smith and Baker

Miss Shirley Smith daughter of Mr. and Mrs H Evan Smith of Belle Rive married Frank G Baker son of Mr. and Mrs C F Baker in a double ring ceremony Saturday afternoon June 24 at the bride’s parents home. The couple will reside at 310 South Ninth Mt. Vernon. The bride wore a blue nylon street length dress with a white hat trimmed with blue veiling and carried white blue and pink carnations. Matron of honor was Mrs Dorothy Wright in pink dress with pink bouquet and best man was Dallas Shelton. Organist Mrs Clyde Smith sang I Love You Truly before vows. A reception for 75 followed. Out of town guests from Evansville Decatur Salem Olwein Winter Haven Benton and other area towns attended.

Jacqueline York to Compete in Radio Day Contest

Jacqueline York aged 19 of 1207 Logan street will compete for Miss Radio Appreciation Day at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis on July 2. Sponsored by WMIX, she previously was Miss Mt. Vernon and earned prizes including a trip to the Chicago Railway Fair. A Mt. Vernon Township High School graduate class of 1950, she performed in operettas Rio Rita and Sweethearts and will attend a brunch at the Missouri Athletic Club hosted by Griesiedieck Brothers Brewery Co. If crowned, she will win two World Series tickets in St. Louis and $100 expense money for herself and a companion.

Rise and Shine 4 H Club Meets with Talks and Games

The Rise and Shine 4 H Club gathered June 26 at Tom and Glory Ann Guerrant home with 22 members present. Visitors Lavon and Ted Jennings attended. Members were assigned talks for the next meeting. Talks were given by Louise Hill Betty Duncan Shirley Duncan Jerry Huey and Edward and George Prince. Outdoor games followed and refreshments were served by Mrs Eleanor Guerrant. Next meeting set for July 10 at eight p m at Delmar and Wayne Diels home. The West Side Bob Cats 4 H Club met June 21 at Marvin Ettats home on Pike with ten members present. Ronald Shurtz and Jimmie Norris led talks and summer camp plans for West Frankfort were discussed. Next meeting slated for July 5 at Jimmie Norris home. Massive Jamboree 1950 Draws 47000 Scouts to Valley Forge

APTV on Valley Forge hosts the national Boy Scout Jamboree 1950 with about 47000 in residence by opening day. Scouts cook for themselves under supervision, feast details include 40000 eggs and 409000 quarts of milk.
