A long list of residents and guests travel between Mt. Vernon St Louis Marion and other cities. Otto Bayer and Mrs Kath aiie Flora visit St Louis on business. The Hungates the Inhoffs and many others spend time with relatives or attend events and reunions in Illinois Missouri and California.
The Jefferson Memorial hotel admission and discharge list includes Gail Nanly from Wayne City Wendell Ratliff Belle Rive Loretta Miller and others with infant Mary Jo noted. John Wimberly listed. Good Samaritan admits include Blanch Sledge Neta Elis Charlotte Greene with multiple discharges and infants listed among the names.
A son was born today at 3:50 am to Mrs. Carmie Montague of Route 7 and the late Harry A. Montague at Good Samaritan Hospital. He weighed eight pounds one half ounce and is named Harry Dean. Mr Montague died May 20.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the Mt. Vernon local chapter office on Friday, July 28. Sixty nine pints were donated during the Armory visit on Monday with thirty two pints credited to Co M guardsmen. Eighty six potential donors were reported and seventeen sections noted.

Miss Jean Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs G C Smith of 707 S 22nd St earns a Nursing diploma at Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing St Louis An honor award of 50 is given for scholastic standing She attended Mt Vernon Township High School and was in the Glee Club Now at Washington University St Louis pursuing a BS in Nursing Education The Euclid Baptist church service preceded by a week of activity included Baccalaureate at Third Baptist with Rev C Oscar Johnson Homer Rodeheaver led the singing The hospital staff hosted a dinner for the graduating class at the hospital dining room
The Young Homemakers Unit of the Home Bureau holds a special meeting Tuesday June 29 at 9 30 a m at Mrs Doris Atkinson s Fairfield Road home Attendees will plan trays glass etching textile painting and glove making and bring a sack lunch The Wesleyan Service Guild of Epworth Methodist Church met Monday at Mrs William Edmison s Rush ton Drive opening with scripture and prayer The group announced 61 books were collected for Jesse Lee Home Alaska The lesson I Can Give More by Fern Gurley covered reports from women in China Japan Africa India South America and other regions on meeting needs through W S C S generosity The next social event is July 31 hosted by Group 4 led by Mrs Susanna Stevens Mrs Dorothy Sechrest and Mrs Eloise Wall with refreshments served
The vacation Bible school from East Side Baptist Church will hold a commencement program Friday evening June 30 at 7 30 o clock. All pupils are to arrive by 7 30. Parents and community members are urged to attend.
The adult Presbyterian choir will meet for rehearsal tonight at seven o'clock. Members are urged to be present.
The Mt. Vernon Optimist Club held a 6:45 Tuesday meeting at Robb's Coffee House with guest Ralph Kaufman of Great West Life discussing Alcoholics Anonymous. Westminster Society Holds June Meeting Prepares for July August Vacation. George Washington paper by Nell Kell featured musical selections by Mrs Boston. Mary Martha Circle hosts social hour after business meeting. Picnic planned for Summersville Home Bureau and 4 H at Mt Vernon City Park Friday June 30 at 2 p m. all members and visitors invited.
Mt Ver non city police say a bicycle stolen at the city park Tuesday has been recovered. The bike belongs to Larry Reeder of 2221 Casey Avenue.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bohn of Crossett Ark stopped at the Mt. Vernon Airport Tuesday en route to Chicago. Dwaine Lenten of Herrin flew here today. Harold Hollett and Carl Edmi son flew to Lambert Airport St Louis Mo today.
Miss Shirley Smith daughter of Mr. and Mrs H Evan Smith of Belle Rive married Frank G Baker son of Mr. and Mrs C F Baker in a double ring ceremony Saturday afternoon June 24 at the bride’s parents home. The couple will reside at 310 South Ninth Mt. Vernon. The bride wore a blue nylon street length dress with a white hat trimmed with blue veiling and carried white blue and pink carnations. Matron of honor was Mrs Dorothy Wright in pink dress with pink bouquet and best man was Dallas Shelton. Organist Mrs Clyde Smith sang I Love You Truly before vows. A reception for 75 followed. Out of town guests from Evansville Decatur Salem Olwein Winter Haven Benton and other area towns attended.
Mt. Vernon Legionnaires invited to dedication of new Legion Home in Eldorado Friday with national commander George N. Craig and other guests. Mt. Vernon VFW Juvenile Drum and Bugle Corps to take part in a 2:30 p.m. Eldorado parade honoring the national commander.
Jacqueline York aged 19 of 1207 Logan street will compete for Miss Radio Appreciation Day at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis on July 2. Sponsored by WMIX, she previously was Miss Mt. Vernon and earned prizes including a trip to the Chicago Railway Fair. A Mt. Vernon Township High School graduate class of 1950, she performed in operettas Rio Rita and Sweethearts and will attend a brunch at the Missouri Athletic Club hosted by Griesiedieck Brothers Brewery Co. If crowned, she will win two World Series tickets in St. Louis and $100 expense money for herself and a companion.
Curt Bradley Jr. of this city will leave Thursday for Vincennes Indiana to join WAOV as staff announcer. He studied speech at Southern Illinois University and served as master of ceremonies for Campus Show and Miss Southern contest last term at S LU.
The Rise and Shine 4 H Club gathered June 26 at Tom and Glory Ann Guerrant home with 22 members present. Visitors Lavon and Ted Jennings attended. Members were assigned talks for the next meeting. Talks were given by Louise Hill Betty Duncan Shirley Duncan Jerry Huey and Edward and George Prince. Outdoor games followed and refreshments were served by Mrs Eleanor Guerrant. Next meeting set for July 10 at eight p m at Delmar and Wayne Diels home. The West Side Bob Cats 4 H Club met June 21 at Marvin Ettats home on Pike with ten members present. Ronald Shurtz and Jimmie Norris led talks and summer camp plans for West Frankfort were discussed. Next meeting slated for July 5 at Jimmie Norris home. J D Shurtz will discuss his trip to University of Illinois.
APTV on Valley Forge hosts the national Boy Scout Jamboree 1950 with about 47000 in residence by opening day. Scouts cook for themselves under supervision, feast details include 40000 eggs and 409000 quarts of milk. Attendees span 48 states, 18 foreign countries, and a United Nations troop of U N staff families. President Truman expected to address as honorary president.
The regular meetings of AMVETS Turner Roehm Post No. 4 will be held tonight in the club room at 8 p.m. An executive meeting precedes at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. All members are urged to attend and bring a new member.
