Social rounds fill Mt. Vernon weekend with visitors and travel

Local residents welcomed relatives and friends from Indiana Utah and Illinois during weekend visits. Many persons traveled to nearby cities including St Louis Champaign Bloomington Evansville and Carbondale for errands illness hospital stays and social events. Several names and towns appear among the arrivals departures and visits.

Drennan Brown Wedding Held At Mt Vernon First Baptist

Vera Brown daughter of Mr and Mrs Orville Brown wed Carl S Drennan son of Mrs Iva M Drennan in a six oclock ceremony at First Baptist Church Mt Vernon Rev W W Harvey officiated. Attendants included matron of honor Mrs Montie McDaniel and best man Dr Leonard W Esper. Out of town guests included families from Springfield Albion Greenville Mt Carmel Pittsburgh and Salem.

Frances Shepard and Ray Catron Wed in Bluford

Frances Shepard daughter of Mr and Mrs John Shepard of Bluford marries Ray Catron son of Rev and Mrs Earnest Catron of Wayne City in a Church of God ceremony on June 15. The bride wore white and roses, with Grace Sauls as matron of honor and Walter Catron as best man. The couple will reside in Bluford after a northern Illinois honeymoon.

Boy Scouts Explore Peckerwood Ranch on Day Hike

Troop 104 Scouts hiked from the Presbyterian church via Centralia Road to Peckerwood Ranch. David Arthurs guided them through the ranch operations. They cooked supper by the lake and returned before dark with plans for more exploratory trips and possible overnight outings this summer.

The family of the late Dr. Todd P. Ward donated an air conditioning unit to Good Samaritan Hospital. Mother Mary Aloysia announced the gift today. The unit had been installed in the sick room during Dr. Ward’s last illness.

Hold Man Here For Wyoming Officers

John S. Mayo, 39, is held in the Jefferson county jail for authorities in Rock Springs Wyoming. He was arrested in Nashville last night after Jefferson county officers led a search. Mayo was brought to the county jail here.
