Uncle Of Father Burke Is Dead

Martin Burke uncle of Father James P. Burke of Mt. Vernon died Saturday morning at his Cambridge Massachusetts home. Native of County Tipperary Ireland he came to America at 18 and spent most of his life in the Boston area. Solemn High Mass will be held Tuesday at St Marys Cambridge with Rev James P Burke as celebrant. Burial in the Cambridge Catholic cemetery. Survivors include daughter Helen McMahon and sons Joseph and William all of Cambridge, plus nieces and nephews in St Louis and East St Louis. Preceded in death by wife and a son Francis.

The Associated Saddle Clubs of Southern Illinois sponsor a week of trail riding in the Shawnee National Forest. Stolen Billfolds From Parked Cars At City Park

Girl Injured By Rock at City Park

A nine year old girl, Rhonda Jean Oxford, was struck in the head and shoulder by a rock while riding a boat on the park lake. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in satisfactory condition. Police arrested Louis Winston and Lewis Lidell, both youths, on disturbance charges related to the rock throwing incident.

Auto Hits Tree Injuring Driver on South 19th Street

Orla R. Lashbrook, 21, of 1912 Cherry Street, was injured early Saturday when a 1967 model car he was driving sideswiped a power pole in the 200 block of South 19th Street, knocked down a street sign, and struck a tree. The car was badly damaged and Lashbrook was charged with careless driving.
