McBride In as Steelworkers Leader in Major Turnover

Lloyd McBride, aged 60, takes over as head of the United Steelworkers replacing retiring President J.W. Abel after a bitter election against Edward Sadlowski. The inauguration at Linden Hall Fayette County drew 1500 guests including AFLCIO President Meany. Also sworn in were Lynn Williams Frank McKee Joe Qodorcich and Leon Lynch among 311 executive members.

Employment agency helps gays find openly gay jobs in Chicago

AP reports Send-A-Man opens in Chicago two months ago aiding homosexuals to get jobs where sexuality can be disclosed. Dom Hopkins says about 15 placements exist, mostly in straight firms with gay hiring officers, and ads target homosexual outlets and bars. Hopkins notes high dedication and fewer family obligations benefiting work.

Find Student's Body in Charleston Apartment

The body of Robert J. Wurnster, 22, of Chicago and an Eastern Illinois University student, was found in his Charleston apartment. Coroner Richard Lynch said the cause of death is unknown and may require state toxicology tests.

Kidnapped El Salvador Ambassador Freed in Guatemala

El Salvador's ambassador to Guatemala Eduardo Casanova Sandoval, 58, was freed after a 48 hour captivity by an underground leftist group. He was hooded, questioned, and shot in the right foot during the abduction, then left in a canyon and later helped home by a passerby.
