Reprieve For Archeologists In Mojave Dig
Archaeologists in the Mojave Desert near Barstow California receive a 30 day reprieve to continue digging at Calico Mountains. Glenn S Gunn, a miner with claims on the site, warned researchers to leave by sundown but later offered to extend work for 30 days. Dr Louis Leakey backs the claim that 20 foot pits yield Stone Age tools possibly 120000 years old, signaling one of the earliest human presences in the Western Hemisphere. An injunction may be sought to protect the dig as federal authorities facilitate a negotiated pause. Gunn has held the claims since the early 1950s.

Wall Street Costs Probed
The SEC launched a full scale inquiry into stock trading costs and proposed an interim NYSE reduction by Sept 15. The plan targets mutual funds and small buyers, with options for discounts on 160 share trades or on trades over 50 000 dollars. NYSE reaction was open and the SEC had no view on options.
