Former White House chief of staff H. R. Haldeman testified to the Senate Watergate committee that he approved a 90000 campaign budget for black projects prior to the 1972 Republican convention though he did not know the specifics. He said the funds covered through Aug. 20, 1972 and involved Colson.

Wayman Presley who erected the steel cross in 1965 at a cost of about 100000 is distressed by its flimsy construction as winds tear panels.
