Carrier Boy Jimmy Threlkeld Earns Noted Route

The Register-News profile honors Jimmy Threlkeld son of Mr and Mrs Anthony Pennington of Wayne City who began delivering on October 6 1947 with Route 21 covering the south side of town from Perkins to Gilbert and nearby streets. Blood Drive Exceeds Quota At Red Cross Visit

During the Red Cross Bloodmobile tour Mt. Vernon and Jefferson county residents donated eighty two pints, two over the quota. Forty prospective donors scheduled appointments, 27 kept theirs and 69 walked in. Thirteen volunteers were rejected.

Bluford Officials Warn on Driving Oiled Streets

City officials in Bluford warned motorists they will be prosecuted for driving over blocked-off oiled streets. Justice of the peace J.R. Howell fined a man $25 and costs this week for the offense. Officials said all motorists caught on such streets will be arrested.

Pleads Guilty In Traffic Case In Belle Rive Collisions Prompt DUI Charge

Oram Wilkey, 58, of Belle Rive, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated at arraignment before County Judge Frank H. Walker. Judge Walker took the case under advisement after officers said his car was involved in two collisions Thursday.

Hershey to resign as State Insurance Director

Harry B. Hershey of Taylorville announced he will resign as State Insurance Director effective September 1. The 65 year old plans to return to his private law practice in Taylorville. He was appointed head of the Insurance Department in January last year by Governor Stevenson.

Farmers in Jefferson County Win Gas Tax Refunds

The state Department of Revenue refunded $3,593 in motor fuel taxes to Jefferson County taxpayers over the last three months. Refunds went to 162 individuals or firms for gasoline not used in automobiles. Farmers received the largest share for gas used in tractors and farm machinery.
