Auto Thief and Wife Found Slain West of St. Louis
West Alton Missouri July 29 a fugitive auto thief Robert Betts 31 and his estranged wife Josephine 27 a telephone company operator were found shot to death in a car on highway 94 three miles west of West Alton. A note in Mrs Betts purse written in Betts hand suggested a murder suicide pact with Betts shotting first and then killing himself. Authorities noted Betts had been sought since last April on warrants after four stolen cars were found at his home.
