The AGA urged removal of federal regulation on interstate gas sales while the FPC kept ceilings. Interstate gas faces a $1.42 per thousand cubic feet ceiling, rising one cent each quarter, for new supplies after Dec 31 1974, with 1973 and 1974 gas at $1.01. Intrastate gas averages $1.55, unchanged by FPC rules.
Mitchell Ware and Richard Gliebe, former Illinois Bureau of Investigation leaders, were indicted by a federal grand jury on one count each of conspiracy tied to illegal surveillances of 11 people between 1970 and 1972. The case centers on downstate and Chicago area targets, including Anita Barr and others, with Ware previously resigning amid controversy over raids and methods.
At the Mt Vernon fairgrounds 4-H Livestock Sale the fourth annual event raised $17,003.22. The 1110 pound grand champion steer bought by Millies Cafe of Waltonville sold for $1 per pound. Top hog price was $1.49 per pound by Lesser Feed Mill for a hog raised by Larry Eastham. S & W Motors bought the grand champion market lamb for $0.69 per pound. Numerous steers hogs and lambs sold to buyers including Brehm Hanna Chevrolet King City Federal Savings & Loan Shelton Feed Security Bank Austins Restaurant Marion-Jefferson Service Company Welch's Sales and Service and others. Volunteers served as auctioneers with Mr and Mrs Howard Gene Clifton as clerks.
Old Union School board weighs a 130000 to 150000 dollar temporary facility to be in place before fall 1978. The plan relies on a 260 student threshold for a state grant and uses a 96000 dollar insurance payout plus a possible 151000 dollar bond. London AP Foreign Secretary Anthony Crosland announced Britain is breaking diplomatic relations with Idi Amin's Uganda government. Crosland said the decision was taken with deep regret in the House of Commons.
Seaman announces two firms selected to design an advanced coal to gas demonstration plant funded by ERDA with about 20 million dollars for Phase I per state. Construction could employ 1,900 workers and use 2,700 tons of coal daily if built in Illinois, with decisions at each phase and possible federal support for a second plant.
