Lizzie Littrell of Kell Dies at 76 in Jefferson Co

Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Lizzie Littrell 76 died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday at her Kell area home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Panther Fork church with burial in a nearby cemetery. The body was at Osborn Funeral Home in Kell. She was born September 1 1879 in Jefferson County daughter of Taylor and Martha Lisenby. On January 1 1908 she married Ben Littrell who survives. Also surviving are two sons Jim at home and Helen of Mt Vernon, one daughter Ona Fields of Kell, six grandchildren, two brothers Abe Lisenby of Dix and Aud Lisenby of Iuka, and one sister Mrs Louie Rector of Texico.

35 New Street Lights Installed in Mt Vernon

Illinois Power Company announced today that thirty five new street lights have been installed in Mt Vernon. City Manager Chester Lewis said most new intersection lights are in the south part of the city as part of a residential lighting improvement program. The council has debated a white way system for downtown Mt Vernon and main thoroughfares.

Five Moroccans Killed In Meknes Riots During Grandval Visit

Five Moroccans died and ten were wounded as clashes erupted between police and nationalist demonstrators in Meknes during the first visit to the region by French resident general Gilbert Grandval. Venice Indiana police dispatches reported a four foot snake at headquarters Sunday night. Raymond Mikol alerted via radio for help claiming trouble at headquarters. Lt. Keith Griffin and Patrolman R. D. Brawley arrived and killed the gray black snake.

Steer Rescued From 16-Foot Cistern in Carbondale

Carbondale Illinois John Armstrong found a 500 pound steer in a cistern on his farm after Sunday School services. Fire Chief Almont Crawshaw directed a tow truck crew to hoist the animal from 12 feet of water. The steer emerged unharmed and was returned to safety.

General Motors reported a record worldwide employment average of 624,954 and a payroll totaling 1.563 billion dollars for the first six months of 1955. Storms End Heat Wave With Cool Canadian Air Arrival

Hitchhiker Shoots and Robs Man Near Mt. Vernon

Man and stepdaughter drown in creek near Marion

A man Fred Meyers 59 of Paulton and his daughter Ruby Trusty 15 drowned Sunday in a creek near Paulton seven miles northeast of Marion. Meyers tried to rescue Ruby who stepped into water over her head. Both struggled and sank as the pair fought to stay afloat. A rescue crew could not revive them.
