Denver AP reports 67 percent of Americans back President Nixon’s plan to visit Communist China per a public opinion survey. The poll of 1,002 adults, July 20–21, shows 20 percent opposed and 13 percent undecided. It also finds 68 percent expect closer U S China ties to promote world peace, while 41 percent favor and 40 percent oppose UN entry for Communist China.

A single engine Cessna traveling from Atlantic Iowa to Mattoon Illinois crashed and exploded in a cemetery north of Springfield during a rain storm. Kansas pilot Arthur H.
