Mt Vernon hog market showed a 25 cent rise with top hogs at 18.25 for 190 to 220 pounds. Sows priced at 15.25 for 300 pounds and down, over 14.75 for heavier sows. Boars listed at 8.50 and 9.50. Mt Vernon grain prices quoted this afternoon: Wheat 1.95, Soybeans 2.36, Corn 1.06.
AP USDA cattle hogs and sheep prices at National Stockyards detail hogs 9 300 head with various weights and grades, cattle including slaughter steers and heifers with loads and price ranges, cows and bulls, vealers and calves, and sheep with spring lambs and range of prices. Strong entities include National Stockyards, USDA, and price figures across weight classes.
Chicago prices show butter steady with minor gains across grades and wholesale buying up to 4 higher on some lines. Live poultry wholesale prices hold, roasters around 34 to 35 cents, white rock fryers quoted at 19 to 19.5 cents, with mixed grades and dirties noted in small ranges.

AP reports Sir Cedric Hardwicke is hospitalized at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Hollywood with a respiratory condition described by doctors as a respiratory case.

Mrs. A C Lamport of Peoria, formerly of Dahlgren, died at 6 00 pm Saturday in Methodist Hospital Peoria. Funeral services will be at 2 00 pm Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home Dahlgren. Burial follows in Dahlgren cemetery. Friends may call after 6 00 pm at the funeral home.
Groveside services were held for Robyn Mann infant daughter of Ronald and Joan Mann of 3216 Wild Rose Drive. The baby, born dead at 11 12 p m Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, is survived by three sisters Gayle Susan and Lori and grandmother Mrs Laura Mann of Lucan Hunt Village near St Louis.
Funeral services for Wood Boston 86 of Sullivan Illinois were held Saturday at Riggins Funeral Home in Carterville. Burial followed at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Herrin. Boston who died Thursday at the Masonic Home Sullivan was born November 4 1875 in Glasgow Kentucky. He married Mattie Flanagan who preceded him in death. He leaves five daughters Sybil Lashbrook Lois Wicks Thel Dean Nadine Regan Beatrice Cox a son Adge Boston six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mrs. Golda May Wilkey 76 of 2501 Perkins died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Funeral at 2 PM Tuesday at Logan Street Baptist Church with Rev. James Franks officiating. Burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Visitation at Pulley Funeral Home after 3 PM today. She was born March 23, 1896 in Jefferson county daughter of Marion and Rosella Newton. She married Emery Wilkey December 30, 1920, who preceded her in death in 1930. She also was preceded by an infant daughter. Survived by a son Linver Wilkey of Casper Wyoming and a brother West Newton of Carlsbad New Mexico.
Graveside services for Jeffrey Lynn Browder infant son of Willie Leroy Browder and Helen Browder were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Knob Prairie cemetery with Rev. Bird Green officiating. Born dead Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital he is survived by three brothers and seven sisters, plus grandparents Mrs. Bertha Braden and Mrs. Della Browder.

Police report several youths tossed cherry bombs from moving cars in the Mt Vernon area on Saturday night causing property damage. One bomb exploded in a mailbox at No. 2 Linnview, blowing the mailbox apart, another bomb struck a porch at Curt Ham’s home on 1812 Isabella, destroying ivy vines. Police warn that those involved in such vandalism will be prosecuted.

Ken Steele, a veteran road show entrepreneur and Johnston City native, died Saturday in Denham Springs Louisiana likely from a heart ailment. He led Ken Steele Enterprises and belonged to the St Louis IA Showmen chapter, operating road shows in several southern states.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Aydt of RFD 2 Dahlgren welcomed Anita Marie weighing six pounds nine and a half ounces born at 5 08 this morning. Mr and Mrs Leonard Gant of 517 Grand welcomed Marceena Lynette weighing six pounds one and a quarter ounces born at 10 yesterday morning. Mr and Mrs Darrell Dodillet of 3236 Cherry welcomed Diane Ruth weighing eight pounds born at 6 20 Saturday night. Gerald T Myatt 24 of Granite City Ill posted a $1500 bond before Police Magistrate Sherman Bullock on charges of illegal possession of dangerous drugs and illegal use of a weapon. He was arrested after an auto accident found with a gun and barbiturate pills. he also faces driving too fast for conditions and fictitious license plates. He is to appear August 3 to answer the traffic charges.

Mt Vernon police charged 15 year old Harry Earl Clary of 417 South Sixth Street with auto theft after a Saturday night crash at Ninth and Broadway. He allegedly took a car owned by Shirley Burgess at 313 Herbert, ran a red light, and fled after colliding with Glenda C. Byars, 18, of Route 7. A 13 year old boy with him was released. No injuries were reported.
A Saturday fire damaged the wiring of a car owned by Joe Capps in the 300 block of Perkins. Firemen were summoned to control the blaze and prevent spread.
Dominic Betljewski reported to the sheriff that someone stole $5.20 in coins Saturday night from his rural home on Route 3. The coins, all in loose change, were taken from the top of a dresser in the bedroom.
