Mt Vernon police responded to two vandalism and attempted theft cases late Wednesday and today. At 1:35 am thieves ripped a telephone receiver from Toney's Laundry at 711 Conger and damaged a vending machine. A burglary attempt at Rogers Grocery, 400 block of South 17th Street, damaged a door and netted about $30. Owner Leon Rogers said it was the fifth attempted break-in there in eight months.

Six St Louisans Injured As Car Hits Abutment
