A flood of visitors and shoppers filled Mt Vernon as residents from Fairfield Waynesville Bluford Nashville Dix and nearby towns were seen on business calling at local firms and enjoying weekend visits. Cpl Robert Huggins son of local residents returned to Smyrna Tenn after a 24 day leave following his Army service and reenlistment.
F. E. Carnahan from this city flew to Mattoon yesterday. Tommy Payne and Carl Edmi gan of Mt. Vernon flew to Saint Louis today.

Atzhie Fermer filed for divorce from Lilly May Fermer in circuit court alleging desertion. The couple married July 1 1940 and separated January 30 1949 per complaint. Attorney Morton F. Dorothy represents the plaintiff.
Two injured men remained in critical condition at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital after an accident south of Mt Vernon Thursday. The victims are Robert Lee Martin 22 of RFD 3 Mt Vernon and Clifford Farkas 22 of 1223 Casey Avenue.
Associated Press reports thousands of Baptists from around the world gather for the eighth international congress in Cleveland. Officials anticipate a six day conclave with 20000 attendees, a parade of faith and freedom, and a 3000-voice mass choir at Municipal Stadium.
Mrs Mildred Furnall received the Thank You Badge for outstanding work with Girl Scouts at an informal breakfast at her home. The highest award for Scout leaders, it was presented by Mrs Paul I t ch and Mrs Paul Whitney. Furnall, Mt Vernon district Scout commissioner, was honored in a gathering of twenty two council members leaders and group assistants.
DeWaine Randall son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Randall of 807 Park Avenue has carried The Register News for nearly three years. He began on September 27, 1947 with route 14 and has kept it since, serving Mt Vernon north side including Lyons Court Salem Road to Warren Avenue Shaw's Garden Oakland Avenue to Centralia Road Lambert Avenue Warren Avenue 14th Street and Park Avenue to Tolle Road. A Mt Vernon Township High School junior he enjoys basketball baseball swimming and fishing. His hobbies are raising thoroughbred rabbits and collecting stamps with successes at many rabbit shows. He aims to be a bookkeeper after school and plans to attend college. Editor notes this is the ninth in a series on carrier boys of The Register News.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Mt Vernon next Friday July 28 at the chapter office from 2 00 to 6 00 p m. Harry Walter chairman today requested all recruitment chairmen to report their lists of donors to the chapter office.
A $600 damage suit arising from a November 24, 1949 automobile collision at the north edge of Ina was filed in circuit court. Arline Plemons sues Martin E. Shelton alleging fault and seeking $600 for car damage and related inconvenience. Attorney Alvin Lacey Williams represents the plaintiff.
Fire at 8 30 last night damaged the kitchen at Molly Murray's residence 805 North 12th Street. Firemen said the stove ignited a window shade and spread to the walls causing considerable damage.
The Boyd Oilers 4 H clubs travel today to Forest Park in St Louis Highlands after a July 17 Boyd school meeting. Speakers included Bob Piercy Jim Mays Allen McBride and Ray Mills. Next gathering set for August 7 at the Boyd school.
Two Scott Field soldiers riding in a car stolen at Belleville TL were arrested by State Patrolman Buck Lyons at Mt. Vernon. The soldiers were identified as Pfc Goolsby and Pfc W. H. Gardner. They were jailed locally and later turned over to Bellevue authorities who also recovered the vehicle.
Luke Hayes of Mt Vernon and Zelda Williamson of RFD 3 Mt Vernon obtained a marriage license together. Official records show the couple planning a ceremony in Mt Vernon.
