Rites Wednesday For Sims Resident
Funeral services for Ballard Fenton aged 73 of Sims are set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist church in Sims. Fenton died Sunday at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital and is survived by his wife Cordin five sons Clarence Gilbert Curtis Everett and the Rev Otis Fenton all of Sims and two daughters Mrs Elsie Hauk and Mrs Marie Wells.

A 19 year old Ohio farm girl Irene Huffman Clark, missing since last Sunday, identified herself as the bride who vanished with a red haired man near St John Indiana. She was picked up by Deputy Sheriff Jantz in Porter County and said the man tried to make love to her before releasing her. Her husband Marshall Clark reported the disappearance and later vanished. The woman hopes to return home as officers contact her father in Ohio for travel arrangements.

Joliet township high school won first prize of 500 for the best amateur juvenile band in a parade tied to the Lions Clubs convention in Joliet Illinois. Wheaton city band took second with 300 while Austin Grenadiers of Chicago earned 200 in the drum and bugle corps contest. Lockport and Palatine received honorable mentions and prizes for best float.

Farmer Dies at His Keenes Home

Bridge Gives Way Over Embarrass River
A condemned wooden bridge collapsed in Lawrence county near Birds, sending a car driven by 54 year old Mrs Herbert McCarty into the Embarrass river. Her body, found after about three hours, showed fatal injuries. The bridge, built in 1883, had a 30 foot section give way under the car.
