Liner Franconia Freed From St Lawrence Reef
The 20,000 ton liner Franconia stranded four days on a St. Lawrence river reef was pulled loose by six tugs. It went to drydock at Lauzon Quebec two miles away. Four tugs at the stern and two on the starboard side finally freed the Cunard-Donaldson vessel from the reef at Pointe Au Taureau.

The 1950 Mt. Vernon State Fair ended with the automobile thrill show and a full slate of races including a pony derby and a horse pulling contest. Play Arm, owned by A-1 Tennis of Mt. Carmel and ridden by Jockey Armstrong, won the $500 Jefferson County Derby after a late stretch drive. Bee Bonnie was a strong challenger and Bells O'Fair finished third. Mrs Lettie Pate Dies at 63 in Dixun Home
Mrs Lettie Viola Pate died at 9 45 Sunday morning at 205 Castleton avenue after turning 63. Funeral services are Tuesday at 2 00 pm at East Side Baptist church with Rev Bird Green officiating and burial at Bethel Memorial cemetery. She was born June 17 1887 in Hamilton county daughter of Robert M and Jerusha Porter Jiles. In 1908 she married Charles Pate who survives. Surviving with her husband are her son Charles and daughter Mabel and a sister Mrs Effle Thomas of Centralla.
