Schumacher 87 of 203 N 9th St died at 6 55 am today at Jefferson Nursing Home Born in South Bend Ind on April 11 1889 he was son of Joseph and Margaret Schumacher He married Sibyl Knepp who survives An oil producer he worked in Mt Vernon since 1942 He attended the University of Notre Dame and was a member of St Marys Catholic Church Missouri Athletic Club and Notre Dame Alumni Funeral arrangements will be announced by Myers Baril Chapel He is survived by wife Sibyl one son Leo A Schumacher Jr Tulsa three grandsons James A Crutchmer Jr Amarillo Tex Leo A Schumacher III St Louis Mo and William D Schumacher Tulsa three granddaughters Jane C Wesson Oxford Pa Margaret C Eaton Broken Arrow Okla and Suzanne M Schumacher Tulsa nine great granddaughters One daughter Margaret Crutchmer died in 1942 and preceded him in death

Man Jailed For Alleged Theft Of Air Conditioner
A 36-year-old Vernon man was jailed Tuesday afternoon in the air conditioner theft case involving Charles Youngblood of Keenes. Two other suspects were arrested and released pending formal charges after a high speed chase that ended with a crash at Bell Street and Welkins Street. The driver faces possible charges of eluding police and leaving the scene amid major vehicle damage.

A 22 year old Mt. Vernon man, John Puckett, was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital after a left shoulder wound in an accidental shooting at 12 12 a.m. in an alley behind Kings Bakery. Melvin Knappier 18, reportedly played with the .22 revolver which went off. Knappier fled with the gun and was to be questioned by police to determine possible charges.

The village treasurer Joe Sekardi lost records dating to 1930 and musical instruments, a pickup truck, antiques, bands, and a 1920 Model T Ford in a house fire that destroyed his home in Nason.
