Funeral services for John A. Overturf, father of LeRoy Overturf of Mt. Vernon, were held at 2:00 pm Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Benton. A World War I veteran, military rites were observed. Surviving are wife Eleanor, five sons LeRoy Mt. Vernon, James Robert and Charles Edward Watsonville Calif, Archie Lee Chicago and Gordon Wayne at home, four daughters Veneta Sullens Englewood Calif, Martha Irene Overturf Highland Ind, Shirley Darlene Eickmeyer Chicago, Edith Louise Overturf at home, two brothers Goat Benton and William Overturf Louisiana, two sisters Beulah Potts and Belvin Marvel Benton.

Mt Vernon police charged Eddie Hill, 17, of 903 Cleveland, with theft and resisting arrest after he allegedly stole a pocket knife valued at $7.20 from Benoist Hardware on the west side of the public square and resisted officers.
