Agnes Kleeman of Nashville Dies at 67

Miss Agnes Kleeman aged 67 of Nashville died at 1 50 a m today in Good Samaritan Hospital Mt Vernon. A retired 40 year school teacher she spent most years at Nashville high school. Born January 7 1905 in Nashville she was the daughter of Henry C and Lydia Huck Kleeman. Survived by a brother Edwin H Kleeman of Mt Vernon Funeral arrangements are at Pyatt Funeral Home Nashville.

Bennett Lindell Sesser dies at coal mine accident

Lindell Bennett Sesser, 52, of Sesser, died last night of a heart attack at the Zeigs Coal Mine near Johnston City while at work. Funeral services are incomplete at Brayfield Funeral Home in Sesser. He was born Nov 1920 in West Frankfort and was a World War I veteran. He is survived by his wife Rosalie, two sons Steve Bennett and Richard Myers, one daughter Sheila Hawking, four brothers, three sisters, and three grandchildren.

McGovern achieved the Democratic nomination as the party held a late night roll call in a packed hall. Supporters celebrated as Lawrence F. O'Brien announced final totals with McGovern ahead by 219 votes after shifts. Editor of Mt. V. paper dies at 68

Mt. Vernon newspaper editor J. M. Metcalf, age 68, died after a long tenure at the paper. He became editor in 1937, supervising focal and telegraph news, and previously served on advertising. Survived by wife Mildred Threlkeld, mother Fannie Metcalf, daughter Sara Duren, two grandchildren, Kay and Kurtis, brother Glenn Metcalf, sisters Ruth Keaton and A L Warren. sister Maxine Tate preceded him. Funeral arrangements incomplete.

Mt V School Sale Plans Move Forward Soon

The Mt. Vernon area school board outlined steps toward selling the 69 acre West Salem site with an August 9 vote to authorize action. Publicity includes a brochure, letter, Wall Street Journal listing, and a Dun and Bradstreet mailing list to attract buyers. The board also reviewed facilities issues, increased the treasurer’s bond, and approved early bids for fuel oil coal and parking lot sealing while hiring staff for next year.

Appellate Court Dismisses Ladder Fall Damage Suit

The Fifth District Appellate Court of Illinois in Mt. Vernon upheld a lower court ruling that dismisses a damage suit by Jefferson County resident LeRoy Warren against Donald Meeker and Meeker Bins. Warren fell from a Brain silo ladder while repairing an electrical hook-up, and the court found the Structural Work Act did not apply. Justice George J. Moran delivered the opinion with Justices Charles E. Jones and Caswell J. Crebs concurring.

Longtime Mt. Vernon editor Orian Me calf dies at home

Orian Me calf, veteran editor of the King City Scene, died today after a long career spanning 1922 to 1972. He led the paper with fairness and loyalty to Publisher Edwin Rackaway and his sons, contributing during World War II and beyond. He will be missed by colleagues and the Mt. Vernon community.

The governor states County Line Road north from Illinois 183 will remain open to provide access to the new state marina and area parks. Access to the lake park and marina is assured though north access to the state park is uncertain. conservation officials could not confirm. Two airline hijackers armed with shotguns forced a Philadelphia to Texas flight to Brazoria County Airport near Houston with 600000 dollars in ransom and four stewardesses as police disabled the craft.
