Bill Holland 80 of 1103 S 22nd St died yesterday in Jeffersonian Nursing Home He was born February 22 1892 in Dahlgren son of John W and Rachel Catherine Holland He married Lulu Iva Williams September 10 1928 in Benton she died in 1969 He was WWI veteran and member of VFW Post 1376 He belonged to Masonic Lodge 31 AF AM for over 50 years Retired Montgomery Ward employee Funeral Saturday at 2 p.m. Hughey Pulley Funeral Home Oakwood Cemetery military graveside rites by VFW Post 1376 He survived by stepson Robert Williams Mt Vernon two stepdaughters Lena Beaty Mt Vernon and Irene Couch Jackson Miss a brother John R Holland Mt Vernon a sister Laura Raney Mt Vernon 16 grandchildren and great grands He was preceded in death by his wife a stepson and his parents.

Carbondale Names Rayfield City Planning Director
James Rayfield, 44, a member of the City Planning Commission, was named city planning director in Carbondale Illinois. He will begin July 25 and replaces John Quinn who left for Arvada California. Rayfield has six years with Greater Egypt Regional Planning and two years on the Carbondale Planning Commission. His salary in the new post will be 15789 annually. He previously worked in planning and urban renewal at Columbia Missouri.

Jail riot ends as 931 prisoners leave chapel stand-off
