Three Randoloph men charged with drug possession

Randolph county men Rick Cook 19 Coulterville Roger Murray 20 and Steve Lindsey 20 Sparta were charged Monday with unlawful possession of a controlled substance after a Holiday Inn room search. They were released on 5000 bond each. a fourth man was released without charge. Police obtained a warrant to search the room where the men stayed. The charge specifies possession of 200 grams or more of a derivative of barbituric acid or its salts.

Mt. Vernon YMCA will organize a five day wilderness hunting and fishing trip to Lake LaRonge in upper Saskatchewan from Sept eight to Sept thirteen. Car Hits House On South St. Driver Charged

A 20 year old Mt. Vernon man Brad ley Atchison of 417 Opdyke Ave was charged with driving while intoxicated after his vehicle swerved off 9th Street and struck the home of Inez Gibbs at 1023 S 9th St. The car was towed and the house sustained major structural damage. Atchison was not injured.

Barn Fire Destroys Jim Mays Hay Barn West of Dix

A barn full of hay and equipment on Jim Mays property, about two and a half miles west of Dix, burned last night. Jefferson Fire Protection District crews arrived at 10:08 p.m. with nine volunteers, aided by Kell Fire Protection District volunteers. The hay fed blaze consumed the structure, with damage estimated at 5,000 to 6,000 dollars. The barn lies outside the Mays district’s fire protection area.

Bank Robbery Spooks Elkville as Abduction Probe Expands

In Elkville an early 20s trio robbed the bank and fled toward a Carbondale car. An attendant near a service station saw the getaway car with three men. Mrs Battaglia, a SIU graduate student, was later found dead in a dump near Carbondale. Police and federal, state, and county agencies cooperate in the case.

Centralia Teens Charged With Tittle Burglary

Three Centralia youths were arrested by Washington county authorities for the March 29 burglary of Tittle's Sporting Goods Store at 1512 S. 10th St. Seventeen handguns valued at $2,000 were stolen. Suspects Sam Powe Jr. 18 Julian Burns 16 and Gary Jones 18 were transferred to Jefferson county. Jones posted $3,000 bond and was released. the others remain in jail under $3,000 bonds each.
