Lori Ann died from injuries in a Colorado horseback accident on July 5 while on vacation. She was born Oct 26 1959 in Mt Vernon and was a student at Field Consolidated School. Survived by Ronald E and Joan Mann, two sisters Gayle Johnson and Susan Mann, and grandmother Laura A Mann.

Mary Elizabeth Martin a former McLeansboro resident died Saturday in St. Louis. Funeral held at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with burial in an East St. Louis cemetery. She was born February 5 1938 in Hamilton County and is survived by her husband Lowell Martin three children several siblings and a half brother. She belonged to the Women’s Fire Auxiliary of East St. Louis.

John P. Oslager 83 of Route 2 Woodlawn and late of Hickory Grove Manor died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Services held Tuesday at St Mary’s Catholic Church Mt. Vernon with burial at St Michaels Cemetery Radom Illinois. He was a retired farmer born June 1 1889 in Jefferson County. survived by a son a daughter a stepson a stepdaughter eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren plus several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Noe and by two sisters two brothers and two steps.

Fire damages van engine at Mt Vernon corner

Mt Vernon firemen were called Saturday at 11 21 p m to the corner of Airport Road and Route 15 where an overheated engine caused a wiring fire in a van type truck. Hoses were damaged in the truck driven by David Guthrie. Three Mt Vernon motorists reported thefts from their cars over the weekend including auto stereos and a battery. Sonny Beppler reported theft of a car stereo and six tapes valued at 180 dollars from his car at his home on Sunday. Henry Prince reported a battery stolen from his car overnight. Burglary Spree Hits Mt Vernon Areas Over Weekend

Police investigated three break ins in Mt Vernon weekend with no serious losses. Harold Damron reported a break in at his office 605 Salem Road with a broken window and no missing items. Bar-B-Q Haven at 15th and Main saw $22.75 taken from a cash register with an empty orange soda bottle left at scene. Peerless Cleaners at 1311 Main Street burglarized between Thursday and Sunday, entry via window, $8 taken through a door and some money from a refrigerator containing soda items.
