Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Hayes will be held Thursday at 2 00 p m at the Ewing Methodist Church Rev Alden Deaton officiating and burial in the local cemetery The body will lie in state at the home of her daughter Mrs Cochrane of Ewing where friends may call at any time until the hour of the service Mrs Hayes widow of Jesse Hayes died Monday night at her daughter’s home in Zeptown (readable fragment).

No Air Crash Forest Blaze Triggers Alarm

Nickerson Fine And Reprimand Approved In Court Case

ATLANTA The guided missile expert Col John Nickerson faced a court martial for leaking secret defense information. Lt Gen Thomas F Hickey issued a formal reprimand, ordered a $100 monthly fine for 15 months, and suspended Nickerson from rank for one year. The case, tried at Redstone Arsenal, awaits review by the Army and defense secretary. Nickerson admitted 15 charges and claimed his actions were to support Army superiority over the Air Force.

Governor Signs State Police Bill in Illinois Action

Gov. Stratton signed into law a measure doubling the Illinois state police force by adding 500 patrolmen and allocating 200 for toll roads. Driver education will be funded by a $2 license fee increase per three years, and tests for drunken drivers and license renewal reforms are included. The package also sets statewide speed limits and imposes periodic exams for drivers over 70. Governor also vetoed or modified alderman quota measures and two commissions as unnecessary.

Fugitive Lipsey Shot Three Times by Police in Tree Flight

East St. Louis junk dealer and ex-convict Thomas Lipsey, 36, was shot three times by officers Tuesday after a three hour chase ending with his arrest in a clump of trees. Lipsey, seriously wounded, was in St Mary’s Hospital. He reportedly disarmed an officer in Washington Park during an earlier arrest attempt and opened fire on two company workers before fleeing.

The Air Force unveiled its first supersonic atomic bomber the Convair B58 Hustler in Fort Worth Texas.
