Five Illinoisans Die In Indiana Highway Crash

Five Illinois residents were killed and four others injured when two cars collided at the U S 41 and U S 30 intersection in Schererville Indiana. Killed were Joseph C Ganz 30 Ottawa Illinois and his two children Randy 7 and Marilyn 3, James Freece 24 Ottawa, and Terry Ganz 19 Ottawa who died later. Dorothy Freece 21 was critically injured with her husband, and Santos B Almenas 30 Chicago was in critical condition after Almenas ran a red light. Dorothy Ganz 33 and Wendy Ganz were listed in fair condition. All injured taken to St Margaret s Hospital Hammond.

Mt Vernon police report 22 automobile accidents in June injuring eleven people. The month saw 94 arrests with fines totaling 1448 dollars. Body of child slain by young rapist found

The broken body of seven year old Carol Sue Blankenship was found in a wooded area near the Mississippi River after being lured by a 17 year old boy who promised to pick mulberries. A first degree murder warrant was issued for Abraham William Skaggs. Carol was the oldest of five children living in South St Louis.
