Lattimore perjury charges partially reinstated by appeals court

The U S Court of Appeals upheld dismissal of two perjury charges against Owen Lattimore including the key count, but reinstated two others based on testimony about Asiaticus and article editing. The decision splits 8 to 1 with Chief Judge Stephens dissenting. the case stems from Senate Internal Security probes into the Institute of Pacific Relations.

Funeral rites set for Eldorado Taylor at 90

Eldorado Taylor aged 90 died at 8:00 this morning at 1112 Lamar Avenue. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Myers Chapel with Rev. Harrison Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Middlefork Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel after 4:00 p.m. Friday. She was born April 15, 1864 in Jefferson County to William and Delilah Hicks. She was married to J. N. Taylor who died in 1932. She was a Primitive Baptist Church member. Survived by four daughters Edna Kirk Myrtle Glover Gertrude Williams and Pearl Britton. six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two daughters preceded her in death.

Mrs Silas Leslie Dies At 74 In McLeansboro

Mrs Silas Leslie 74 died at her McLeansboro home at 4:00 am after an 18 month illness. Born in Hamilton County November 21 1880 she was the daughter of Sylvester and Missouri DeWitt. She married Silas Leslie in 1901 and was a Pleasant Grove Methodist member. Survived by husband three daughters Evelyn Johnson Lucille Slater and Hazel Ramano two sons Earnest and Clarence a sister Effie Ewing twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were incomplete with body at Donaldson Funeral Home until the hour.

Allen G West of Cisne a World War I veteran died at the Veterans Hospital in Marion Wednesday at 5 30 p m He was 65 A funeral will be held Friday at 2 p m at the DeSelms Funeral Home in Cisne with the body in state until the service He is survived by his wife Kate and a brother Larkin West of Hammond Ind Baltimore today’s decision was clearly a major victory.

Finance Co Receives Fifth Consecutive Merit Award

Donald Young of Limerick Finance at 316 Rogers Bldg announced that his firm won its fifth consecutive merit award for excellence in its annual reports to employees and stockholders. The award, from Financial World, recognizes modern content and presentation from among more than 500 reports. The 1953 report, published in December, earned the current honor.

Airline Pilots Strike Over Eight Hour Day Rule

The AFL Air Line Pilots Association calls a system-wide strike against American Airlines to enforce an eight hour limit on continuous flying. President Co. N. Sayen says pilots will walk out at 11:59 p.m. July 15 to force compliance with the historic rule. The dispute follows CAB suspending the eight hour rule to permit non stop coast to coast service with the same crews.

Tragedy in Wisconsin: Mother and three children die in blaze

In Waukesha Wisconsin a young mother Madeline Knuese 31 and her three children Robert Jr 6 Margaret 2 and Mary 3 died in a residence fire in the Gatewood subdivision. Her husband and a neighbor fought to reach them breaking through flames but could not save them. The son and mother were recovered from the ruins and the fire’s cause was under investigation.
