Mr and Mrs William Kenneth Musgrave of Fairfield welcomed a daughter named Kevan Jo at Good Samaritan Hospital this morning. Mr and Mrs Albert Gentiles of Mt Vernon had a son named Waa yesterday afternoon at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr and Mrs Claude Simpson of Wayne City reported a son born this morning at Good Samaritan Hospital named Mare Dewayne.

Brookman Wins Granada Theatre Talent Quest

Mt. Vernon singer Brookman won first place in the Granada Theatre Talent Quest finals last night, singing My Foolish Heart. He received 25 dollars and 500 Liberty Service Station dividend stamps and will enter the regional finals at Belleville tonight, with the Fox Theatres regional winner to perform on a St. Louis TV show. Flora twins Ida Sue and Bobby took second for tap, John Roach placed third with his own The Roach Symphony, and Phil Buford was fourth with Rhapsody in Rhythm on drums.

Field Township Meeting On Annexation Called

The Board of Education of the Field Consolidated Community grade school district has called a meeting of Field township residents for Tuesday July 11 at 8 00 p m at Center school. Discussion will cover proposed annexation of the Field township non high school area to the Mt Vernon high school district. All residents are invited.

Airlines to Haul Men for Army

The Defense Department announced seven airlines will operate special flights to move men and supplies to the Far East. These flights run in addition to regular Military Air Transport Service operations. No details were given on plane counts passenger numbers cargo tonnage or exact destinations.

Mettie Clark of Wayne City Dies

Mettie Clark 70 of Wayne City died at 6 p m Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Funeral arrangements were incomplete. She was first married to Blaine Anderson, who died 25 years ago, and later to J H Clark, who survives. Also surviving are two sons Earl Anderson of Wayne City and Ralph Anderson of Davis, Illinois, and three daughters Stella Sutherland of Gibson City, Eline Donono of Melvin, Illinois, and Mamie Buke of Capron.

Mt Vernon Scouts Enjoy National Jamboree at Valley Forge

Twenty two Mt Vernon Boy Scouts report a lively National Jamboree at Valley Forge Pa with daily programs including displays, campfires, Scoutcraft events, inter camp visits and exchanges with Texas New Mexico Florida and foreign delegations attending. The troop tents near the National Memorial Arch describe trading gadgets with other troops and meeting Scouts from Oregon Washington Idaho and Pennsylvania. About 47 000 scouts and leaders from across the U S Hawaii Alaska the Canal Zone attend while Region Seven totals around 7 000. Scouts plan return by 5:30 p m July 9 by train to Olney Illinois and bus to Mt Vernon.

Canada guards locks near Sault Ste. Marie canal

Reunion Closes as Carnival Continues at Mt Vernon Park

The three day Veterans Reunion ended at Mt. Vernon city park last night while the Veterans Reunion Commission announced Blue Grass Shows will continue entertaining through the week. The carnival in the park north end is sponsored by the veterans group. Children from the Orphanage will be guests this afternoon and carrier boys of The Register-News will be their guests tonight. A special children's matinee with reduced prices runs Saturday from 1 to 6 PM.
