Marvin Mannen 59 of Houston Texas died recently in Houston. He was a retired printer and former employee of The Register News. Services will be held in Houston with funeral arrangements incomplete. Born February 11, 1918 in Jefferson County he was the son of Hardy and Alma Dodds Mannen. He was married to Anna Katherine Davis and survived by three sons David of Tampa Mak Charles both of Houston and seven grandchildren. Forgery Charge Shuts Ex-Workshop Chief in Centralia
A former director of the Kaskaskia Workshop, A. Leary, was jailed in Centralia after being charged with forgery and intent to defraud. Marion County prosecutors say he cashed a $1,600 check from the Marion County Board of Supervisors. Leary, who resigned last week, denies the charge though the check bears his signature. He remains in jail.

Hijacker Walks Off Plane After Standoff in Chicago

At Wauconda Illinois and Seattle and Elsinore California Fourth of July displays caused multiple injuries. Open housing is now law in Mount Vernon with tax exempt status for units. The 1960 resolution prompted a debate on a payment in lieu of taxes from tax free public housing. Mayor Lewis questioned whether the city received 10 percent of shelter rents, about $4,000 yearly, going to county funds. The council considers reporting on revenue shares. Also approved: $3,000 for Mt. Vernon Jaycees Christmas decorations, funding for a water line project on Brownsville Road, and bids for two water department trucks. City records show 8,772 swimmers used the new city park pool in the first month, including 2,785 adults and 5,987 children.
