Dale Sturman Dahlgren of Dahlgren died Thursday in Berwyn. He was married to Alice Johnson who died two weeks earlier. Graveside services are Monday at 3 p.m. at IOOF cemetery Dahlgren. Farina Service Station Robbed Suspects Captured Near Mt Vernon

Robbers took a metal cash box with an undetermined amount from a Farina Standard station this morning. No weapon was shown. State police and county deputies pursued, and a car matching the description was spotted in Jefferson County around 9 am. Suspects were captured near Mt Vernon as station staff prepared to identify them.

Traffic 14 Dead In Early Hours Of Holiday

The Associated Press report notes 14 traffic deaths nationwide in the early Fourth of July weekend hours. The National Safety Council estimates 530 to 630 total fatalities may occur as more than 17 billion miles are expected to be driven during the holiday period. Melvin Taylor Sentenced to Six Months in County Jail

Melvin Taylor age 16 of 1424 Cherry Street was sentenced Friday by Judge Albert McAllister to six months in county jail and three years probation for aggravated battery. He is to serve three months in jail, one month out, and three months in jail. Taylor also faces burglary and robbery charges from separate cases and has filed a civil suit against Police Officer Mark Drake Assistant Police Chief Holland Irvin and Sheriff Bill alleging abuse and improper jailing. the suit remains pending.

Southern Illinois Asphalt Wins Two Highway Contracts

Southern Illinois Asphalt Co. Inc. of Mt. Vernon received two IDOT highway contracts. One covers 3.19 miles of concrete base and resurfacing on Nicolas Route 127 from north of Carlyle to 3.5 miles north, costing about $824,429. The other, by Southern Wlineis Asphalt, covers 7.4 miles of concrete binder and surface course with widening on Green Street Road from U S Route 51 in Central City eastward, costing about $596,826.

Lawmakers passed a complex reform to the state aid formula aimed at equalizing per pupil spending while benefiting Chicago and downstate units. Pam Reynolds lost a $150 Teaberry 23 channel CB from her locked car near Woolworth's at Park Pizza Center. David Mays had a $200 Cobra 23 channel CB stolen from his drive on Perkins Ave. Dennis Braddy's Eversonic CB, $125, was taken from his locked car between Thursday night and Friday morning. Randy Odie reported a $169 Clarbone 23 channel CB radio and $32 A-Stake mic stolen from his locked car.
