Mt Vernon Kids Celebrate Indian Pow-Wow at Park
The Mt. Vernon summer recreation program ended its fourth week with an Indian pow-wow at the city park. About 100 youngsters, six tribes, tepees, a war dance, and a Peace pipe ceremony highlighted the event. Mohawk tribe won athletic events as tribal dances and songs followed, concluding with a flag pledge and “America.” Costumes were crafted in playgrounds handicraft classes. The annual pageant will be shown in about two weeks and the program runs through late July.
