Foy Fahringer longtime Mt Vernon car shops employee dies after long illness at his Berwick home. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Berwick with burial there. Survived by wife Maé Fahringer of Berwick and daughter Pauline Gowler of Villa Grove NJ.
Edward R. Blessin of 303 Harrison died at 11:37 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson Memorial. He was 80 years old. A retired woodworker, he will lie in state at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with services Tuesday conducted by Rev. Carl V. Williams. Born Aug. 27, 1880, in Michigan City, Ind., he married Rosa May Barber in Salem. Survivors include three sons Edward M. Blessin, Louis D. Blessin, and Charles W. Blessin. two daughters Anna May Blessin and Marjorie A. Wood. six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was a member of the White City Methodist Church.
Henry Starkey aged 87 of 911 Welkins died this morning at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body was taken to Myers Chapel. Survivors include son Veronie Starkey of 201 Main Street.
Laura J. Sinks age 83 of 1905 South 18th Street died at 3 15 p m yesterday at Cunningham Nursing Home. Services set for 2 00 p m tomorrow at Myers Chapel with Rev Har t officiating. Burial in Hickory Hill Cemetery. She was born Aug 11 1877 in Waltonville, married Oliver King in May 1893 and survived by six sons, five daughters, two brothers, one sister, 86 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Frank Aten Be Liebengood were held today in Alton. He was 80, a resident of East First in Mt Vernon, born May near Mt Vernon. Survived by a brother August Liebengood of Mt Vernon.
Fern Braddy, aged 63, former resident of Roane County, dies at 11 30 a m at her Rowan home. She is remembered as one of our most bidders and a longtime community figure in Roane County. Funeral services scheduled for today with details provided by local officials.
President Kennedy outlined a sweeping program to boost the economy and strengthen national defense. Mrs Donald Cook of Whiteman Air Force Base Sedalia Mo and former Ina residents are parents of a son Byford Olin born Saturday weighing six pounds ten and one half ounces. Grandparents Ray Cook Callie Jones of Ina. A daughter born to Mr and Mrs Jim Stinson of Aripeka Fla last Friday January 27 weighing seven pounds ten ounces named Sherry Lynn. Great grandparents E M Schorle Mt Vernon and W H Hottensen Opdyke. Carl Chester Belt and wife at 237 South 15th Street parent of Robert Lee born at 4 24 yesterday afternoon weighing seven pounds four ounces. LeAnn born to Ronald Galbraith of RFD 2 Salem at 11 19 last night weighing five pounds fifteen ounces. Luther Newton Beppler of 1302 South 24th Street parent of James Ladon born at 10 39 yesterday morning weighing nine pounds ten ounces.
Six towboats were trapped in ice north of Cairo as winter conditions eased briefly. Officials reported the ice thinning, a spokesman noted the danger remained, and observers feared damage to pilings used to control the diver. Estimated damage from 1950 reportedly around $1 million.

W B Porter of No 4 Homestead Hills called to Little Rock to be at the bedside of his mother Mrs Emma C Porter who suffered a severe heart attack at her home there last night She is a patient in Room 419 West Missouri Pacific Hospital in Little Rock and has many friends here.

Mt Vernon markets list this afternoon shows Wheat at 2.03 and Corn at 1.05 per bushel with soybeans at 2.48. Prices reflect local trading for Mt Vernon region with no additional context or date.
Prices paid at the Mt Vernon livestock market rose by 50 cents. Top hogs weighing 190 to 210 pounds brought 18.23, while lighter hogs fetched 13.50 for 300 pounds. Boars sold from 10.00 to 11.00.

Springfield Illinois AP report says the Korean bonus fund is nearly exhausted but payments continue. Veterans Commission administrator Ralph Johnson warned an extra 1 million dollars is needed to fulfill all claims by veterans and bereaved beneficiaries. About 65,000 people have been paid from the 1959 legislature authorized fund. beneficiaries receive 100 dollars to 1,000 dollars. Revenue from a penny cigarette tax ended June 7 when the fund hit 10.5 million. A bill to reinstate the tax to cover bonus obligations was expected to pass in the legislature this week.
