Eternal Flapper Fannie Ward Dies At 79 Or 83

NEW YORK, Jan 28 Actress Fannie Ward famed as the eternal youth icon died yesterday at Lenox Hill Hospital. She admitted to being 79, but friends put her in her 80s or 83. Ward, who rose to fame playing younger parts, began on stage in 1890 and built a long career in theatre vaudeville and film. A friend found her unconscious in her Park Avenue apartment last Monday after a period of coma.

Harvey S. Lee Dies at 82 in Wayne County

Harvey S. Lee, 82, a retired Orchardsville farmer, died at Mt. Carmel hospital in Wayne City. Funeral services set for Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at New Church near Orchardville with Rev. Alfred Medders officiating. Burial in New Church cemetery. Survived by son Charles of Flora, daughter Mrs. Tony Manning of Wayne City, two brothers Clement of Xenia and Mason of Orchardville, sister Mrs. Ella Ellis of Orchardville. born October 2, 1869. preceded in death by wife Mabel Forth.

Two Jailed After Area Auto Mishaps

In Mt. Vernon area weekend traffic incidents left minor injuries and two arrests. Kenneth L. Kirkpatrick 25 pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and received 30 days in Jefferson County jail a $100 fine and one year license revocation. William Waller 30 also pleaded guilty to DWI and received 30 days jail.

Plan to Drill 2,279 Oil Wells in Illinois in 1952

Oil and gas operators expect to drill 2,279 new wells in Illinois during 1952, down from 2,424 completed in 1951. The split forecasts 898 wildcats and 1,381 development wells. 1951 totals show 918 oil successes, 10 natural gas, 12 service wells, 1,848 dry, with 6,044,000 feet drilled and 59,827,000 barrels produced. Illinois ended 1951 with 4.9 barrels per well per day and reserves up 85,000,000 barrels to 538,000,000 barrels recoverable.

His Ashes Buried In Detroit River

Christian Po Anderson a 46 year old Detroit Board of Education secretary died January 9. His ashes were placed in the Detroit River yesterday in a Coast Guard buoy tender ceremony. The Power Squadron members conducted the rites, noting it was the first river burial in 180 years. Anderson served as a Navy Lieutenant Commander in World War II and loved the water.

Open House Celebrates Mt V Tire Co Name Change

Mt Vernon Tire Service at 12th and Broadway held an open house last weekend to mark the name change from Duncan Garrison to Mt Vernon Tire Service. About 600 people attended as prizes valued over $500 were distributed. Stanley V Kozlara. 3,218 people guessed the marble jar total. Alfred Leffler won a set of U S Royal tires for the closest guess. A nylon tube demonstration was shown with a car fitted with the tubes and no tires.

Gibbs Faces Indictment Troubles Over Payroll Irregularities
